I know SlappyMcRover here was just trolling for a fight (and misusing the word 'epitome' in the process
,) but this Defender promotion/Discovery degrading thread brings to light an issue that I just don't get...So Stand by for Belligerant Discoweb Logic...
There is a beat D-90 near my office which is for sale for 26 grand.
It is 10 years old.
80,000 miles.
It is rusty around the bulkhead and hinges.
It is slathered with vital fluids on the underside.
The seats and top are tattered.
The paint is oxidized.
The right rear panel is damaged.
The sill steps and brush bar are rusted thru.
One headlight is filled with orange water.
I asked the owner to see it.
He met me at the car.
With a key.
It did not start.
It is 10 years old.
80,000 miles
26 grand.
It is Rare.
It is "cool"
Everybody Wants One....
It is a D-90.
wooo
There are 500,000 of these things ready to enter the US in just a few years.
They will
not cost TWENTY-SIX thousand dollars when they get here....
Keep it, and I'll keep my DII and continue my 109 shopping, thanks.
Conclusion: If you bought a D-90 new and kept it...then congratulations, you made a great choice...although when you bought the thing, you had no idea that the model would be discontinued and your truck would hold its value so well. Defenders are cool trucks to be sure. Still, all over the world, Defenders are available for chump-change much the same as any 10 y/o LR. Had LR fitted a Disco airbag to that D-90 around the corner...I'd offer the guy 4,500 bucks.
If you bought a used 10 year old truck with 80,000 miles for 26 grand....you are a moron.
