Recommendation for a snow tire (tyre)?

2005 LR3. Any good ideas for a snow tire (tyre)? We live in a snowy, mountainous, hilly, rugged, dirt road location. Must be studded but would be curious about non studded opinions. Previously, I've used Nokian Hakkapeliittas with the eco studs. Worked great. Didn't last. Actually, none of...

    Tailgate issue

btw, I brought the dealership this info but they didn't believe that they would have to destroy the panel. Just picked the LR3 up -- and sure enough, the panel has a big hole in it and now I'm waiting (again) for the part. I have to say, this is a terrible design in that 1) no interior release...

    coolant loss at expansion tank

A lot of very good and sophisticated advice being dispensed here. Here is a simpler idea. I had both my 95 D1 and my 91 RRC both develop a sneaky problem. The original (black) expansion tanks develop a very small crack on a molding seam on the under side of the tank. Under high pressure/high...

Cruse Control and how I fixed it..

Dan -- The vacuum pump can be hard to find (assuming you're not joking) -- its tucked into an alcove near the driver's side (NAS) head light.

Cruse Control and how I fixed it..

Good tip. I can confirm this. A reliable Rover shop in Albuquerque (CRT Automotive) taught me this. They routinely open up the failed unit and solder the broken connections back together. I have not seen them do this but when my unit failed a few years ago (I was able to find a cheap used...

    Reliability questions...

Rovers suffer from an excess of personality. You either like that in a vehicle, which makes you a contender for ownership, or you don't, which means you should consider a vehicle built in Japan -- where they seem to excel at building vehicles without personality. Generally, I think Rovers are...

Any cheap or steel wheels for the LR3?

Yes, its costing $150+/yr just to swap tires out -- which is the primary reason I want to get the extra rims. My brother has an Audi with the nonstudded Nokian Hakkapeliittas and can usually make my road -- if he has the available clearance, which is not always. Those Audis are little tanks...

Any cheap or steel wheels for the LR3?

I've just been doing the winter/summer tire swap. I'm still looking for someone who went the bling route so I could buy their old old OEM 18" wheels. For some reason the 19" wheels are generally more available, but I've discovered its invariably a headache to have more than one size tire/wheel...

How do you like the LR3 vs. a D1 or D2?

There was a great thread here about the LR3, D2 and D1 http://www.discoweb.org/forums/showthread.php?t=40578 I have a 05 LR3, a 95 D1 and a 91 RRC. The LR3 cannot be compared to the other vehicles. It is so amazingly sure footed, big and solid, that it is a bit boring to drive -- the hill...

Any cheap or steel wheels for the LR3?

Its been a while since I originally posted this -- and I still haven't found a cheaper winter set of rims. Is any one aware of any cheaper choices for wheels to mount snow tires on for a '05 LR3?

    Tire Chains on an LR3

btw, I bought some square link chains (for the tighter clearances) and they have fit quite well and done a nice job. Its tight in there, so I would recommend the square link chain and avoid ice chains or even standard chains.

    Climbing a snow packed hill

I will say that the LR3 can be handful to control with the DSC off. Its torquey, very much acts like a front wheel drive car, and its icy road handling is dramatically different -- if you drive the way you do normally with the DSC on you can easily dump it off the road as the DSC has lulled you...

    How to get firmware upgrades?

I have an 05 approaching the end of the warranty period. I recently asked the dealership to make sure the vehicle had the latest firmware/software upgrades for all the computer controlled wizardry. The dealership refused, saying that Land Rover will not let them download the updates unless the...

    Tailgate issue

I have the same problem on my '05 (still just barely within warranty). I've heard there might be a TSB on this. Any one know if its true or what the number is? I've talked to the local dealership but they are both dumb and good at playing dumb so they said they were unaware of it. In the...

91RRC - Where are the electric seat fuses?

Thank you! Just tried the cleaner and it did work. And the seat is working again. I had taken the covers off the switches earlier, but I had been doubtful that I could do any thing that would easily clean them as under the cover and gasket, its clearly complicated down there.... I did, by...

91RRC - Where are the electric seat fuses?

Thanks. I'll try to the cleaner idea. I see from several sources that this might be the problem. The main fuse panel does not contain the seat fuses. According to the manual, its under the seat some where. Will

91RRC - Where are the electric seat fuses?

91 Range Rover Classic. Passenger (right) side electric seats failed today. Went hunting for the fuses. The Haynes manual doesn't say and the owners manual says under the left hand seat. Pulled those panels, found one bank of relays and a 5, 5, and 20 W fuse there that did not control the...

    Climbing a snow packed hill

DSC off does the trick. Thanks for all the input. Recent snowy weather finally allowed "field testing" some of these suggestions -- and turning the DSC off permits the wheels to spin and dig down to the gravel (when conditions warrant it). The "real world" problem climbing this hill is that...

    Tire Chains on an LR3

Anybody have experience/advice on tire chains on an LR3? I run them when needed on my Discovery and Range Rover, but have been reluctant to approach that much more complicated wheel well of the LR3 with them. Thoughts?

    Climbing a snow packed hill

We have a 05 LR3. We live on a challenging class IV road. Over all, the LR3 has been great. However, there seems to be one major weakness: you cannot spin the tires when you need to to dig to traction while climbing a snow packed hill. Last week (winter comes early here) I had another...
