Anybody have experience/advice on tire chains on an LR3? I run them when needed on my Discovery and Range Rover, but have been reluctant to approach that much more complicated wheel well of the LR3 with them.

Thoughts?

If you've fitted oversize tires, you will have great difficult in the front, with minimal clearance between the sidewall of the tire and the knuckle of the upper control arm.

I think the LR Owners Manual advises them on the rear only, but many people run them on just the front or on both. I have not heard of anyone having any mechanical difficulty using any combination of tires for the chains. The only caveat is tire size and clearance as you cited.

I bought 2 pair of the RUD Grip 4x4 through Bill Burke before last winter and have not had to use them yet. My tires are the standard 255/60R18's but clearance in the front is definitely a concern as stated above. I fitted them as soon as they arrived and called Bill with the concern. I guess it was his wife that I spoke to but she said they have had no complaints. When I went to the RUD website to verify the correct size and p/n, everything checked out. Makes me wonder how many people with LR3's that Bill has "hung-out" with? I'll be using at least the rear set this winter but will be leery about mounting the fronts.

the rud 4x4's ought to fit fine on your stock tires. Very near you, Atlantic British carries them for the stock wheel sizes.

where you live would warrant two wheel sets, one with winter tires that you sometimes chain and the other summer/AT/dirt tires. that are larger but don't get chained.

btw, I bought some square link chains (for the tighter clearances) and they have fit quite well and done a nice job. Its tight in there, so I would recommend the square link chain and avoid ice chains or even standard chains.
