Each 90-110-130 always has the vents, because the front parts are the same on each model.

fredd

this was my impression as well.

Original, unmolested US '93 110's = no functional vents. I've looked at the bare bulkhead at Pendy's.

the pic I posted from ECR?s site is an original NAS 110 bought from Copley.

now, do the vents open all the way?? from the pics I am guessing no because of the roll bar.

but they are there.

All NAS 110's had non functioning vents. If a NAS 110 has functioning vents, it was retrofitted later on.

the nas spec 90s have the same bar in the front, and yes the vents open all the way, the only reason the NAS 93 110s didn't have functioning vents was because of the AC system,, in order to make them work you would have to change the dash, because it was different, and install the metal vent flaps, as it had blanks in place. Why does this conversation keep on going on. Are people disillusioned? :banghead:

The dash setup shows a right-hand drive configuration, but the photo of the defender appears to show the sterring wheel on the left. I am sure someone along this thread has pointed this out and I failed to see it. Although other countries are left hand drive, it seems odd that this test mule would be configured as such since the current target markets are right-hand drive countries.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but if that thing makes it over here it will be a rich man's toy, not an SUV targeted at twenty somethings who are into the outdoors like the current lot in the US (Xterra, FJ, H3). Just a thought, I guess time will tell.
Wellll..ummmm...I'm gonna have to go ahead and agree with you on that. :p

Eh, most people drive on the right hand side of the road including the continent so LR HAS to build/sell LHD Defenders even they don't bring them to the US.

My proof (list is about half way down):

There is plenty of room for an airbag on the either side. Rover seems to have deisgned this dash for flexibility. I agree with the earlier post that left-hand and right-hand drive configurations are easily adapted, atleast at the dash. Further, it appears the pasenger airbag would easily fit where the handle is in the dash, while the drivers airbag will be located in the steering wheel. I believe this mock-up would be representative of an export to a country not requiring airbags or for military usage.

As for the hump on the hood, I do not think we are seeing a finished product here. Testing with odd shaped engines may be the cause. New diesal or alternative fuel testing are likely the cause of what looks like a temporary hood to accomodate an odd shape. There appeared to be plenty of room under my defenders hood so that hump is very mysterious.

PT; I only want to prove you wrong about one thing, and there's always the future doctor to help your problem with that one. LOL.

Limey; If you get a 110; may I please have first dibs on your XD. Icalled it. Shotgun. Mine, mine, mine. I would like it with everything left on this time. Besides you can't switch stuff again, lol.

LRNA; If you make one come in under 35K, I will buy one every three years, for life. No joke, I am not kidding.

about what?

about the damn vents it has been explained several times, sometimes I think the internet was designed for lazy fat asses.

You get the non nas spec trucks so never was this an issue anywhere in the world except the 535 trucks that came to the US and Canada, period.

you are quite lucky to have that pretty truck in your avatar.

The comment was made that the hood buldge was for the spare. Old Subies have their spare tires under the hood on top of the flat-4. No anti-Subaru spoken here!:D

FWIW, It looks like Land Rover is coming out with a more eco-friendly, and economical, V8 Diesel in 2007 for the 2008 model year.

http://rovering.squarespace.com/journal/2005/9/26/new-diesel-v8-starts-production-in-march-2006.html

It looks like it is aimed at the RR and RRS.

The bulge would make sense if they were looking at fitting the portfolio of NAS engines plus the V8 Diesel. The bump may be to accomodate the supercharged Jaguar V8

Sounds like a G55 killer to me:eek:

HIGHLY UNLIKELY...

The bulge is probably to fit the new TD4 diesel that was a joint development between Ford/Peuguot as mentioned earlier in this thread. The S/C 4.2L isn't that much taller to necessitate such a bulge...

The bulge is to accommodate the Duratorq (2.0? 2.4?) diesel engine that is presently fitted to the Ford Transit. Allegedly Ford wouldn't allow LR to modify the sump so they had to put the bulge in the bonnet to get the engine in. Also supposed to be a 6 speed gear box mated to it.

The new TD4 is only going in the new Freelander at the moment.

I got this from another forum (LRO). And, it was confirmed in a dream last night. Take it how you want...

" Ford's choice of replacement is the 2.4 litre 'Puma' 4-cylinder diesel from their Transit van- which at the moment has more power and more torque at lower speeds than the Td5, and I don't think it will be so complex. It will also come with a 6-speed gearbox"

That pic looks like a 110, they didn't have the vents on the 110s.

Actually, they do have vents on the D110s...it's just that some models with the in-dash (vs. underdash) a/c units....like the '93 NAS D110s....blocked the area so they were not finished out. But I've seen many D110's with the vents...and after driving a D90SW for 10 years, couldn't live without them.....

In fact, one of my main objectives in rebuilding my '93 D110, was to open them up by replacing the original POS a/c with an underdash unit and rear air so it will have the vents....found it was easier to just purchase a late model LHD bulkhead from England though.

Here's a picture....
