Check Here

Don't get too excited. No V8 or tdi coming to the US, and I'm thinking this drawing looks a little Jeepy. I guess we should be glad that the badge will say "Defender," at least?

That article should be put to rest for good.

That pic looks like a 110, they didn't have the vents on the 110s.
Paul,

I expected better from you.
Each 90-110-130 always has the vents, because the front parts are the same on each model.

So, who here is already making plans to get a 110 instead of an LR3 when their DII warrantee runs out on the soccer mom/family car in '08? ;)

I figure I could let my wife drive the 110, I can suffer driving the '89 RRC daily.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't LR come out with a statement that the existing D110 would continue until 2011 (albeit with new motors and uprated safety stuff) in current markets not to include NA, and then be replaced by the "new Defender" based on the T5, at which point it would find it's way over here as the T5 variant?

Yeah, but what about that 116" wheelbase?

Nothing a lift and big tires can't take care of..

Although, to be honest I'd just get the normal Rubicon if it had a good diesel in it.. I like the soft top and I really don't need the room since I go wheeling with just me in the truck.

Original, unmolested US '93 110's = no functional vents. I've looked at the bare bulkhead at Pendy's.

Certainly - other than the o.e. ventilation system - no reason they can't be modified to be functional. All it takes is time & money.

As reagards the fuzzy photos .... how the heck do you engineer door intrusion beams into those thin doors, and given the hi $$ market segment LR / Ford would like to play in - how do the side curtain air bags fit into the lightweight roofline?

Unconvinced,

FWIW the 2.4 liter Ford diesel that is likely to be seen in the Defender is already approved for use in the USA thanks to the London Taxi.......and was likely the engine inside a few Transits sighted some time ago in the USA

If they build it, build it right with SAs and CDL, and bring it here to the US for less than 35k, I'll buy one. Are you listening LRNA? PAG?

Does it need side curtain bags to make it into the country?
I don't believe so, only driver and Pass. airbags are required, at least for the time being. There seems to be plenty of curtainless cars out there. The side impact ones found in seats may be required, but those would be easy to do.

Check the ECR site. Mike posted some info awhile back. The bulge in the hood is for a new pugeot desiel engine. No airbags designed into the truck. No importation date scheduled.

Confirmed by another southern vendor as well.

If that thing makes it over here, it'll cost as much as a G-wagen. I'd love to buy one, but I'm, not spending $60k+ on one. You could buy a fleet of antique import Defenders for that in a few years.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but if that thing makes it over here it will be a rich man's toy, not an SUV targeted at twenty somethings who are into the outdoors like the current lot in the US (Xterra, FJ, H3). Just a thought, I guess time will tell.
