Water crossing gone bad...still doesn't start

Remember if you took water over your hood, looks like you did, then make sure those relays behind the glovebox are dry since some cowlings will let water in. I am sure you have already dried the connections on each side behind the kick panels.

One more thing... someone asked about a spray-on for connections. Strike Hold, get it, use it, carry a can with you.
I soaked my ECU, opened it up, air dry, then soaked with Strike Hold. Been a couple of months and no issues, but then again the ECU is now in a water-proof box.

Some good news tonight....I have spark!!!

The bad news is she's still not running. I think there was too much water in the fuel tank. I added 2 cans of Heat but never thought to check my gas gauge. I was just over 3/4 tank (I think) when the incident occured. The gauge is now showing over full. That would be around 5 gallons of water. Not a good thing.

I'll be draining the tank over the next few nights. I should be running by this weekend. Then I get to start the process of reassembly:D

The saga/adventure continues....

because of the design of the disco's tank you will need to remove the pump housing to get the tank cleaned out.

the pump housing goes to the bottom of the tank but it can never fully pump the tank empty. even when the truck runs out of gas there is still about 1/2 gallon of fuel left in the tank.

the best plan IMHO would be to disconnect the line at the top of the tank and install a hose on it and run the pump to empty the tank.

then pull the pump housing and use paper towel to soak up the rest of the fuel.

then I would refill the tank and reconnect the lines and add like 8 bottles of heat.

then I would discconct the line at the fuel rail and run the pump until say a quart or so of fuel comes out.

then recconnect the line and try and start it.

but thats just what I would do...keep us posted man!!

wow, that's gnarly!!! Best of luck, glad you're getting spark, this has been a fun little read.

It does, however, beg the question - if you had a snorkel and had waterproofed your electronics... would you have made it out? :D

I hadn't thought of that. Not a bad idea.

My original plan was to pull the housing and pump directly from the tank.

then I would refill the tank and reconnect the lines and add like 8 bottles of heat.

then I would discconct the line at the fuel rail and run the pump until say a quart or so of fuel comes out.

Glad to know I'm thinking in the right direction. That was the plan after the tank was empty.

then recconnect the line and try and start it.

Good ideas. My commments are in red.

Emptied the fuel tank...added fuel and some Heat.

Nothing. Now it's sounding like it doesn't have spark (again). Also no pressure in the fuel rail.

Scratching my head but not giving up.

It's been a few weeks since my last update.

Replacement ECU arrived yesterday (finally!). Now I have fuel but no spark (grrr).

Couple of questions:

If the MAF is bad, would the engine turn over?
Is there something simple I'm missing?

My expereince only.
MAF issues alone made me think I had no fire.
I am sure you removed and cleaned the MAF.
I have had the same MAF for 113K miles and it has injested mud/water many times over the years but a good cleaning and we are golden.
I have seen some with MAFs that STB on first water injest.
