Talk about amazing? How can ONE administrator / moderator have the sole power to docter, edit, delete a MEMBERS thread. How can it then be considered a "forum" or open discussion. Anyone over there hear of the 5th ammendment? Im an easy going guy, but NW is a piece of work! SCLR turning into "Stalinism"? Inquiring mind's (and new members) want to know!
Thats exactly what an admin/moderators job IS. Just as any web site, your right to the "1st Amendment" (unless you really were meaning the 5th, the right to remain silent I think) is not applicable on privately owned sites or forums. The site owners/admins have the right to allow, delete, edit, or modify anything they want when they want. A club/site/organization may wish to establish self moderation guidelines and follow them, but this is strictly voluntarily and if such course of action is taken, the leaders need to outline these very issues and how the admin/moderator is supposed to handled or process the general situation. While my personal opinion that NW is way off base in his selective deletions/edits/locking the thread, until the club sits him down on his ear and tells him "this is the way its going to be done from now on", or replaces him, he's the one they stuck themselves with to do the job. If no one gave him specific direction on how to proceed, then as wrong as he may be, he is acting within his scope.

Dont put the dog out the front door without a leash and complain when it gets hit by a car. You see the dog running wild, you leash it.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not supporting NW in any way, only the general admin role which he happens to be in.

right, you're the voice of reason when it comes to how people are treated? that's rich.

If a person throws a rock under a wheel of a vehicle, and YOUR kids are potentially in line with whatever gets thrown from the wheels, why is it MY fault, regardless of how many beers have I consumed?
Bad example.

Perfect example.

Try this one out one night: Have a few beers and drive around until someone hits you. Maybe they run a stop sign or hit you from behind. Then, for arguments sake lets say the person dies and you happen to live in a "no fault" state like most seem to be these days. See what happens when the cops show up. Wanna take a few bets now on how many times you will be visiting the judge? I didn't think so.

Look Peter, I have no problem with you personally. I also have no problem with wheeling and having a beer. What I am saying is that at events the controls are not there like they could be in small groups. Blanket policies have to exists that involve the safety of all. If you can't see this then there is no point debating it with you.

Check it out...Virgin post here. Wow, I went online to gain some feedback about RR7 and walked into a classic episode of Jerry Springer.

Getting back to the event itself (that is the purpose and scope of this thread isn't it?) I drove 1,500 miles to RR7 and enjoyed every minute of it! Actually, this is the first time I've ever attended a club event. And to be perfectly honest with you, if I had read a thread like this before-hand, I would have never gone.

That said, drinking and driving on or off-road is illegal in any state, BLM, Natoinal Forest or National Park. There's no need to banter or review club policies, just enlist good old fashioned common sense.

Now for my essay, "What I Enjoyed Most at RR7"

I enjoyed the eclectic mix of Rovers and owners.
I sincerely enjoyed Korean BBQ and Sojo--midnight snack.
I enjoyed seeing new Rovers hitting the trail--no matter how mild.
I enjoyed one of the most ridiculous (I mean that in a good way) stories I have ever heard about the "Pirates of the Rubicon"
I enjoyed seeing Rover families--we have a strong future.
I enjoyed meeting lots of new people.
I enjoy the fact that people volunteer their free time to organize this event, lead trail runs and come back here to get kicked in the teeth...with smiles on their faces.

There were plenty of good things about the event to talk about to waste time talking about the bad. I mean if you're going to complain about SOMETHING why not talk about the fact that there was only one toilet for 200 people?! (smile)

In addition, you also have to consider the clubs liability. What anyone's opinion on having a beer or two during lunchbreak is, is really not relevant when we are talking about a club sponsored event. By allowing alcohol consumption during a trail run even if it is only during lunch break, the organizing clubs open themselves up to potential liability. A group of friends on a private run is a different matter, in that case it's up to each individual to decide if they want to assume the added liability risk or not.

Like I said, I had a beer but only because i was told, directly, at a member event, alcohol ion moderation while on the trail is OK"

I will stand by and abide by whatever rule my club sets for its members.

with that being said, Matt your quotes from another thread are lame. i didnt call any fellow rover owners "sorry ass mother fuckers" or ridicule their trucks. what i did do was argue with a cop and his knowledge of the law. i also called cops in general a very common name because they eat donuts. i dont see the comparison to calling someone a fucking poseur etc. etc.

ahhhh. nevermind.

please gentlemen and ladies, dont type here all weekend. please go out and drive your truck around somewhere. legally.

then go have a beer somewhere, legally.

then get a designated driver or take a taxi.

That's the best suggestion I've read in this post...stop typing and go out and drive your Rover's...

Why not put your damn beer in a coffee cup like the rest of us?

Taaadaaaa, no more flame wars about people seeing other people with beer on the trail.

Badyfish - the sooner you realize that you are largely ignored the better off you will be. I make it a point to avoid you most of the time, but since I am going against my better instincts here let me let you in on a little secret:

You wonder how JSQ can bash the shit out of people and get away with it? Maybe some others around here too? Its called rep. If you can stay around long enough and do something worthwile more than once in a while this is the reward you get. You don't have this yet. Maybe if you quit mouthing off and do something worthile you might get there one day.

Also, did you ever wonder why you have to keep saying "Didn't you read my post" or some variant therof? Well, it gets back to the rep thing. I don't actually read more than the first two lines of your posts. Once I see that they are always defensive and degrading I stop. Now, if it were JSQ, I would read it. He has rep. You do not. If it were John I would read it twice. He has rep. You do not. I would imagine I am pretty typical of most regulars on this board. Your posts are just not being read if not on peoples ignore lists.

Anyway, I just thought I would let you in on these things so you might be able to make better use of your time...and the boards disk space ;)

gee, with all the positive vibes in this thread, I can't wait to meet you guys at the LR Nats. I'll be the guy in the stock Range Rover, Kmart tent and single burner stove. You probably won't see me with an alcoholic drink (stomach problem, not religion), but with Costco bottled water or a Sprite. :D

"Montana" It was nice to meet you around that Korean BBQ/Soju party! I too enjoyed the "Pirates of the Rubicon" story. Since your the only one who has not been picked on yet....Wasn't it two toilets there? (ha ha) I appologize to all; 1st ammendment. Its been awhile since civic's class as one poster reminded me. Happy Trails to all!

Ok, I didn't intend to, but I just read about 75% of this thread. I've got two things to say

(1) I'm sending a paypal donation to DWEB for the entertainment I just received

(2) What is wrong with CAT MEAT's (or whatever his name is) P38. It is different than most.. why bash someone elses rig? My D1 is about the roughest/ugliest truck around on the trails anymore, but it gets me there and back most of the time. I just think it is wrong to bash someones truck b/c they buy the KC Hi-Liters, Advance Auto nick nacks, et al..

That is all I have to say about that .. FG

Has anyone else noticed that the RR7 was so talked about that SCLR has shut its Roverboard down for the weekend to sort all this out? "Kick the tires and light the fires" I say. Mabe "Montana" was right; Springer would be proud of So Cal. We all have differences of opinion, and ones perspective on an issue may differ from someone else's. In the meantime "take care of yourselve's and each other".
