I just threw the tire tracks together fast to see what they'd look like.. but that was basically the idea i was going for.

Dang! That rocks! I'd like that tyre print for a background too... that's awesome.
I'll let ya know how the new blade does tonight- I just got back from a 2 hour drive picking up a new blade.

It's a little too much like the cliche' ovals- but we're still working the concept. The muddy tracks rock, but I think spelling it out instead of MO and not using a white background will make it perfect.
Ryan does some killer stuff!

Steve,

LR instructions are:
"A. Remove rear Discovery lettering
B. Clean paited surface with alcohol pad removing any residue and/or dirt
C. Remove rear license plate and frame if present
D. Align supplied template on the four license plate mounting holes, install four screws through the template as shown - in Fig #1.
E. Tighten the four screws to ensure proper alignment
F. Make sure body surface is dry, peel backing from badge, making sure not to touch the tape surface.
G. Place the badge in the silhouette frame and press firmly directly on the badge - Fig # 2
H. Remove template and re-install license plate and frame as necessary"

Kai,
Can you take a couple of pictures of the badge on your truck and post it.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave- thanks for that info, I was wondering what the heck they expected us to do with those HUGE badges. Those removed Discovery letters would be a hot little upgrade for the older Discos too.
I think I'll leave mine on there and just use the small vinyl version we're working on instead. Wonder what the minimum order is for Boomco to make tyre covers with that badge? Hmmm....

If anyone decides to do this, let me know! I'll be interested in your cool gradient letters

here it is. I didn't know you were supposed to remove the "discovery" lettering. Wel it works this way with all the stickers.

Does the real badge have a smooth back or is it kind of scratched up a bit?

the original has a smooth back.

the test run went badly- I 'upgraded' my software and it's seeing all the files as rastor intead of vector- the only vector file I have has superfluous data in it and has too many cuts.
crap- slight delay while I look for new software.

What kind of software are you using? Is it the one that came with the plotter? Or do you mean something like Corel?

Corel wasn't working out well at all- so I tried my other laptop with PSP8. The plotter software sucks, period- but nothing I can do there. The only way to import into the plotter software is to cut and paste a vector image into it. When I try to open most vector files in Corel, it gets stupid and errors. When I finally get something to open, the plotter software errors and says it can't create the outlines.
The only file that worked so far was the early one where it had the 'extra' lines in the corners.

Thanks for the link- I'm going to order them for Angela's Disco, but I have an idea for a slightly different version that I'll try to make at home.

WARNING:
If you do put on the "Decade of Discovery" badge and later want to remove it, heat the badge with a heat gun and gently slide a thin puddy knife between the badge and the truck. I also oiled the knife up a little too. Since you heated the badge the glue will loosen between the badge and the foam tape and your Disco won't get scratched, i.e. the foam tape will remain on the truck protecting the truck from the knife. The sticky foam residue will have to be cleaned off later. If you try to pull / pry the badge off you will mark up your Disco. I tried the pull method first and put six 1mm gouges on the back door before I figured it out :(

The 50th anniversary decals have not been available for a number of years. However, I have some nice reproductions created from an original if interested. They are the exact size and of the same type of peel-and-stick vinyl. They are $5.50 each. Check out the attached photo.

Thanks,

Dave
