I have Corel9, don't have illustrator though. I think I have photoshop on another machine somewhere in the house.
I have a plug-in for Corel to convert to .stx (Roland Native). No problem with making extras or whatever.

steve -

I emailed ya, but it seems like you check dweb more frequently then your email :) so heres what i wrote:

I?m working on the outlines for the decal now.. question though, can it do more than one color? Like should I do it as a black background, and then white lettering, and basically it?ll only be cutting out the black background, or should all the lettering be cut out also, and just have a black frame, and the letters are blank?

email? what is that?

Ideally, the image should be colorless- just the 'wireframe' of the outlines. The vinyl is single color, but I can cut two of them and overlay them to get the black background etc. For those with silver trucks, I'd weed the silver parts off the decal and one would just apply the black parts. Opposite for dark trucks... or just stick the thing to a black vinyl background.... anyway I'm rambling.

If you can get it to be just a wireframe type transparent image, those work best. I can send you an example when I get home if that would help.

Okay, here is a rough draft of it.. things still need to be shaped up a lot [plus i have to add the rest of the lettering] .. but basically, everything you see in white will be transparent, and the black will be the only color.. i'm not quite sure how to do the edge, since the original one has a white border.. i put a small stroke around it for now, but might come up with something else

Looks good! I'd go with a slightly thicker outline because it may be 'weeded' as a negative image for some applications.
I think it'll cut well!

Has anyone seen a GOOD picture of the euro Discovery logo that has the mountains with it? I think the D1's had it on the mud flaps, but the UK Discos had it on the wings. Angela wants that emblem on her Disco.

Kristina, if you are looking for the 50 yr. anv. badge go to RoverConnection.com, they should still have them. I have one for my `98. However after much use of the pressure washer it is now chrome.

Thanx, Rick, I'll check it out.

The carriage is 15" and has about a 1" margin- so 14" max on either height or width.
The more smooth the lines, the better it cuts. I tried to cut something from a scan and 'edge detect' and the blade tore up the vinyl because the lines were really pixellated and it was trying to cut it that way.

Is anyone going to put the original badge on their truck? I think it's too big, so I might just do the decal and put the real one on a shelf.

I've searched for that logo- I'd scan it off my mudflaps if they didn't fall off already.
If anyone can hook me with a good enough copy to make decals from, I'll make them a couple sets in exchange.

Okay, I'm about 90% done.. about 5% left in touch ups [such as finding the correct font for the lettering], and then 5% to get it ready for you to convert. As for converting, I'm thinking a couple different things;
1. Corel should be able to import an .AI [Adobe Illustrator] and find the paths
2. I could import it into photoshop and maintain the paths, if that could help you any bit.
3. I could try to find a copy of the software that you use and get it all ready for you.
4. I could give you a really clean version of it and you can use the edge detect [probably wont work as good as the others]

Okay, here is the original badge:

And here is what i came up with:

Since you've got the better software, save it off in the purest form- I think Corel 9 can import pretty much anything.
EPS, Corel, Acrobat... If it doesn't go well at first, I can put my software up on my web site and it wouldn't take long to FTP it down. The end result is .stx format. There may even be a conversion app to make those stx files from Photoshop... I'll check in the morning.

Looks great!

Do you happen to have Roland Cutchoice? That's probably the converter that you are talking about for Corel.. it will also work on my side for Illustrator so I can give you the converted .stx file
