Also has a mag/alloy body and all the bells and whistles, including a Nikon vert grip and battery pack. The D70 does, like stated above, have weaknessess, but hey, I got it new with a Nikkor 70-210mm the 18-70mm Kit lens for $1300, more than a year ago.

i will say that digital is the way to go if your paying bills with photography...pictures with very little turn around time is a very good and profitable thing. factor in cost per image/storage/proper exposure ie: "getting the shot" and you have made a ver wise business move.

My frustration is soley with Nikon....I am sick and tired of Canon kicking Nikon in the nuts with every new camera release. In my opinion a Canon 20d is 2x the camera a D70 is....and just a little more expensive, but the added expense is well worth it. I really haven't had a chance to look at a D200. I have been so put out with Nikon and their last 2 prosumer releases....I am scared to look at a D200 because if it doesn't measure up...I will be kicking the dirt with my hands stuffed in my pockets and spitting on the ground and swearing under my breath.

Anyway, I wan't loyal to either brand. But my budget would not allow for the 20D or the D2. So I was stuck with either the D70 or the Canon DRebel..... frankly, if you want to argue that the 20D is better -- well, I won't say much. But if you walk into a camera store, pick up a DReb, and a D70, and you don't choose the D70 at the same price... you're nuts!
As far as the D200 is concerned, it looks to me like all the things lacking in the D70 for a pro-sumer camera are addressed in the D200, except they don't have 1/500 flash sync. Which is phenominal in the D70. ANY other camera is only 1/250th, which, unless you have used flash in action... well, 1/500th is twice the speed of any othe camera out there. Not a big deal though, for most situations. Just a little strange that the other cameras don't also have it.
The way I decided was to go into the store, with my top budget in mind (buy as high as you possibly can!) and actually hold and play with each camera. If you happen to like the camera that is lower in price, you won't be sorry, it just means you can buy a nice Pelican case or second lens to go with it. I have a fairly large Pelican that carries all my gear -- a must. In fact, you should probably buy the Pelican first, so it is ready when you get home.
