    97 D1 drive ability problem

Thanks for the reply. It turns out mine was a faulty aftermarket MAF sensor. I put in an original Lucas unit they I picked up used and it’s running great. I might look into a 4.6 ecm and alarm because I did an engine wrap years ago from the 4.0 to the 4.6. It runs good but I read online that...

    97 D1 drive ability problem

Did you ever get to the root of the problem on this? I just had this issue same issue with high idle, etc. I had the adaptions reset along with base idle but it now lacks power. My only code is 1171 which is lean condition both banks. Going to get a new MAF and see if that helps per the shop...

The dreaded high idle issue - D1

I performed a 4.0 to 4.6 swap (gems) in my ‘97 D1 a few years back. It seems to run ok with a few gremlins popping up here and there. Is it better to reconfigure the ECU, or do they eventually adapt and optimize performance?

D1 runs extremely rough until warmed up

This one has me stumped. On a cold start, my 97 D1 idles ok, but sputters and barely drives above 5mph until the engine is thoroughly warmed up, at which point it runs excellent like nothing ever happened! This issue wasn?t something that was slowly building up and running more poorly over...

D1 Brake Lights not working - suggestions welcome!

I will re-check the bulbs - couldn't hurt! Also taking apart the interior near the back to find the grounds.

D1 Brake Lights not working - suggestions welcome!

FishEH, thanks for the suggestion. I just tried that along with a multimeter on both sides and still no juice.

D1 Brake Lights not working - suggestions welcome!

Vehicle: '97 D1 XD Symptom: Some brake lights work, some do not. The brake lights on either side of the rear door do not work. The one on top of the rear door does work, as do the brake lights on a trailer when hooked up. Attempted fixes: I checked the bulbs - they are fine I replaced the...

    LT230Q Intermediate shaft - questions!

Thanks Peter. I'm going to dig into it a bit just to be sure.

    LT230Q Intermediate shaft - questions!

I have a fresh LT230Q ready to go into my '97 D1. I picked up a used unit that was pretty clean (thanks RoverDude) and am resealing it with fresh gaskets, o-rings and Right Stuff just to make sure there are no leaks. When I went to reseal the intermediate shaft I loosened the nut and slid the...

97 D1 XD keeps blowing fuse and will not start

Well the "winter air" seemed to do the trick! LOL I followed AfiRover's steps on unplugging the ECU and that seemed fix the issue. The only other step I took was I disconnected the ground to the battery when all of the plugs were out on the ECU. Thanks a bunch for the help on this one! It...

97 D1 XD keeps blowing fuse and will not start

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I did have a look at the ECM (next to the washer fluid?). It looks perfect and connections are clean. I checked the wires around the transfer case, brake drums and drive shaft - all appear in good health and still have protective casing intact. The VSS at...

    STILL having cooling problems!

I'm betting it's the fan clutch as well. When they go bad you can see the center will be covered in oil where the little rod in. You should be able to hear it if it's working and kicks in at high temp. I installed a heavy duty fan clutch in mine and it's activated most of the time, keeping...

    2" lift kit question

That sounds about right, to account for the engine weight and the driver

97 D1 XD keeps blowing fuse and will not start

My wife had my '97 D1 XD out yesterday, broke down and needed a tow home...sigh. Apparently the transfer case or transmission oil light temp went on (looks like a red gear with thermometer in the middle on the upper left part of the dash). She stopped and it went off. After another 30 mins of...

4.0 D1 engine, tranny, parts - best offer (San Diego)

Just thought I'd give a last heads up on here. The 4.0 ran just fine when removed from my D1. I'm going to post the stuff on craigslist this weekend. Brian

4.0 D1 engine, tranny, parts - best offer (San Diego)

Hey guys - Cleaning out my garage (ugghhh) and have some things I do not need anymore: D1 4.0 engine w/ about 110K on it - dismantled, heads still on block - it ran fine when removed (I put a 4.6 in mine, that's why) D1 Transmission w/ about 90K on it - rebuildable (internal clutches burnt)...

some play in the timing chain

Thanks Amigo. I did some more research as well and discovered that many cams come with some advancement in timing to compensate for the slop after the initial "break in" of the timing chain and gears. Also confirmed with Mark at D&D that it's normal otherwise the tension would wipe out the...

some play in the timing chain

How much play in the timing chain is too much? When I rebuilt a 4.6 and used new chain and gears supplied with a performance cam kit (D&D), it was a nice snug fit - zero side to side play in the chain. About 16K miles later I pull off the timing cover to replace it (had a leak), and noticed...

    coolant leak

Clean it good, run it, and get underneath it to watch the source. My old engine had a similar leak and it was coming from the headgasket - passenger side - front. If the gaskets were not done right (new bolts, sequence, angle, etc) it's just a matter of time. Hopefully its a timing cover bolt...
