LT230Q Intermediate shaft - questions!

I have a fresh LT230Q ready to go into my '97 D1. I picked up a used unit that was pretty clean (thanks RoverDude) and am resealing it with fresh gaskets, o-rings and Right Stuff just to make sure there are no leaks. When I went to reseal the intermediate shaft I loosened the nut and slid the shaft out enough to get the new o-ring fitted on the other side. When I re-torqued it I went almost a quarter turn past the mark in the nut. I know these units have tapered bearings internally on either end of the shaft with a crushable spacer in between them and that sets the float. Does anyone have any experience with these (will I need a new spacer?) or should it be OK if I back it off to where it originally was? Or maybe just back it off slightly to release any excess tension and avoid too much float? It sounds like a hassle to go through the torque sequence to get the proper torque on a new spacer/bearings but I'll do it if I need to. Anyone else go through this before or have any advice?
Many thanks!

As long as the torque is correct, I'd say it will be OK. There will have been some settling of the components and casing over time, and 1/4 turn on the nut is not a huge amount of distance.

D1 boxes have the collapsible spacer, D2's have the selectable spacer for pre-load.
