Some of you may have seen the post on pirate. I figured Id start a thread here so people can see the progress..

What i am doing is dovetailing, coilovering and building a cage for my disco.

Anyways as you can see in the pictures, th fuell cell is in place, the rear has been dove tailed and re welded in. The lower rear frame has been removed and will be replaced with round tube to support the rear bed.

The coilovers in the rear have been mocked up, I repeat MOCKEDUP!!!! they will be mounted to the cage, not how they are. I needed to get the weight on them so i could get a rough idea on how high i needed the upper mounts to be.

The cage will be done out of 1 3/4 .120 wall. And will hopefully get started next week.

Im leaving all the doors, I removed the rear window frames, and left the B pillar for support and so that it will keep the general appearance of a roof line.

Wheel spacers are on the rear, front next, I really like the stance i think its really going to be great off road..

This weekend im planning on capping the top of the rear quarter panels, and getting the rest of the fuel cell plumbed. and i want to get my red momo steering wheel and hub adapter installed.

As far as the new fuel system i plumbed in a MSD external pump, and russell external billet filter. and I managed to retain the stock pump wiring so Its all controlled by the key with the stock relays, just like the factory one.

Anyways here are some pictures.. enjoy..

where i'm at right now, duh...
How do you plan on "capping" the lower half of the body? I've been wondering how you could do that considering it's aluminum and all....

I just wish I had the money to buy an old beatup disco to do this to. looks like so much fun!

as far as capping goes what I have seen guys do so far kinda sucks.

the boat building industry uses extruded aluminum profiles to cap the top of both aluminum and fiberglass boats...I thing there are some good options that would look pretty good going that way.

Standing the coil-overs straight up and down like that affects spring rate adversely doesn't it? (I could easily be wrong though...)

Straight up and down is actually the best way to mount them.. normally it doesnt happen though. Im going to put the bottoms closer to the wheels, and the tops a little more inward for stability..
