Roof Rack Flooring

I love it! Chicken flooring for everyone!

Kavic/Mike- I have the interlocking option on my truck as well and you can run a few zip ties down the center to keep the back two pieces snuggly together.

Scott/DiscoKid99- I'm running 285/75/R16s (33x10.5) on a set of 16x8 American Racing wheels with 4" backspacing so they flare out a bit from the body giving me a wider stance and better clearance. I had to trim back a hair on the back side of the front flares where they meet the sliders and a bit of the inside lip from the top of both the front and rear flares. But keep in mind, my bumpers (front and rear) afford me a lot more room in the wheel well than if you just put on a set of 3" springs. My rear bumper design meant removing all body underneath the back rubber stripping (a good 5"+ more than Safari Gard's design).

Don't laugh but...

I got this plastic chicken coop flooring...

I'm not laughing, I'm crying because I'm so happy I finally found a solution for the rack!!! Not blocking the light from the sunroofs is awesome, plus this will deflect big hail. Funny it's made for chickens and it's also "cheap cheap".

Ordered mine.

Won, don't you have to actually use your roof rack before considering any kind of flooring? :D

:p

The rack is back up and the hellas are all wired. Since the Area 51 trip, Emily has been after me about putting floors on the rack "just like Mr. Craig's"

So, don't worry, your "ex" will be getting some mileages on her. ;)

You guys did notice that the product is "not recommended for turkeys"....

Neat stuff - sounds like a great find - there's got to be a local source in North Georgia considering all of the chicken houses scattered all over the area.

I contacted AFI directly, looking for suppliers in Georgia. They pointed me to Double L Group out of Iowa as the best possibility (and cheapest). I've contacted Double L to see if they can ship to georgia, and how much.

OK, you've taken a step in the right direction with putting the rack back on and wiring the 4Ks. Don't ruin it all by putting that chicken crap up there...

It won't be as comfortable for the kids to sit on, right?

C'mon man, think about the kids!

Personally, I think Ho Chung's solution is the best-looking and durable roof rack flooring.

Got it today, it is the same as Ned's. Red Rooster chicken floor, made in Canada. A little more flexible than I was expecting but I think it will serve my purpose just fine. Leaving on vacation for a week so I'll put it on the rack when I get back.

Everyone please do show off your solutions for securing the flooring, I am very interested to see what everyone comes up with, so I only have to buy a mounting solution the first time!

I never thought I would be so excited about something chickens poop on :D

Just got mine installed last night. I'll post some photos. Did much of the installation standing on the flooring in-place. Pretty tough stuff. On my Safety Devices D2 rack, the front piece fits without cutting if you don't mind it sitting back from the front about an inch or two. Also, if you tie it down in enough places (I think about 30 total?), it doesn't flex much at all. I have no padding on my rack, and I have zero rattles. There is a little new wind noise at speeds of 20-45, but a huge reduction at highway speeds. If it's straight-up sunny, you'll get a nice grid shadow on your face through the sunroof. Too many nice.

Of note:

It's easy to accidentally install them upside down  in the wee hours of the evening when the lighting's not so good. The bottom side is cupped and will collect water if installed that way. It was back to Lowe's for more ties for me. Oops.

hmm.... greg, wrong thread i think. people here are pumped up about chicken flooring.

I do think Ho's floor looks great...but I think I remember getting a price for something like 160.00 for the plywood alone! I like the cost of this newfound "chickenshit" solution!
