Roof Rack Flooring

Glad you all like it. I'll thumb around tomorrow (in the daylight) and see if I can't find a brand name on it somewhere.

As far as standing on it goes... yes, you can stand on it. It does have a little bit of flex when I've got all 205 lbs of me slogging around on it, stepping where there isn't support from the rack. But it just pops right back into place. Suppose with a few more zip ties it'd stay in place even more?? But in my opinion, a little flex is no big deal.

I'll try and snap some more shots tomorrow when I'm trying to get a brand name off of it.

Forgot to answer Craig's question about noise...

I haven't noticed any "howl" or "whistle" from the wind coming up through the holes in the deck like I did with the expanded metal. I do however have four Hella 4000s across the front so that will cut down a lot of wind howl anyway. So I can't say how it'd perform with a rack without lights. Also, if you look in the pictures, I do have a thin strip of padding on the rack tubing as a barrier between the rack (metal) and the deck (plastic) as a potential rattle preventative. I had that stuff left over from when I had expanded metal on there and don't even know if there would have been any rattle with the plastic deck but figured leaving it on was easier than taking it off and finding out I'd need it down the line.

Okay, I snapped some more shots and did some more investigating.

The flooring says "Red Rooster" and "Broiler Breeder Chicken Flooring" on it, but I did a search online and came up with nothing. And I tried to search Mill's Fleet Farm's website as well and it is very limited. Mill's Fleet Farm is kind of a hike from Minneapolis, so I'd encourage anyone interested to just call them up and see if you can't track it down. If memory serves me, it was actually in the "Pet" section. Rural Minnesota... go figure.

We're actually moving to Denver middle of next week so thing's are a little hectic these days, but if anyone interested comes up with nothing but Dead Ends trying to track this stuff down, I may have time to drive down to Fleet Farm and do some more investigating. Maybe I should just buy a bunch of this crap and sell it off for a nominal profit???

The shots show that yes, you can stand on it just fine. I also took a tighter shot to show how it flexes a little with me putting my full weight on one leg. Again, I weigh 205 lbs., give or take a few donuts. I also included a shot of my truck, because I haven't had the time to organize my mods and pics to submit a Gallery page and the Green Giant was feeling a little left out.

Hope this helps.

Glad you like it. I had Rockware custom fab all the armor to my spec. Can't recommend them enough.

Eric- Nice find online! That's the stuff. "It's been used with success under birds of all sizes." I'll remember that next time I'm lumbering around on it.

Nori- Don't know if you mistyped... the guard would perfrom great on its own. I just wanted something to protect the quarter panel so I tied in an extra tube between it and the sliders. Of course the extra tubing will help strengthen both, but it's main purpose was for side protection. As is the side tubing on the rear bumper.

Well, I ordered 3 pieces of this stuff today. It looks to be identical to the Red Rooster product. $13.95 per piece plus about $11 shipping. That's cheaper than driving out to the co-op hoping they have something.

LOL, so did I. I even got a message stating it shipped today within hours of ordering. I got the overlapping version rather than the non-overlapping version though. If it doesn't work out my dog got a new floor for his kennel. :D

Jay, let me know how you like it. I am looking for something for my RRC. Are you going to the LRN thing on the 8th, I would like to see how it looks on the truck in person?
