Yes, that's weird that some got good service from Roverville and others got nothing!

Is the AB kit similar to the Blitz?

How do you remove the radio from the dash?
I assume you need some kind of little *key* for those slots...

The AB kit plugs in where the 6-disc changer would under the passenger seat. You can then just snake the small cable around under the console so its entirely hidden expect for a small bit that connects to your iPod. It takes about 2 minutes to install and you don't have to pull your radio. Very easy and well worth the $$, IMO.

I see.
So some kits(the AB) connect at the CD changer end, and others connect at the head unit end.

edit:
It looks like the AB kit doesn't charge your ipod/iphone.
The Grom and Blitz charge ipod/iphone but require plugging in to the back of head unit.

So, do '04 models have a code for the radio?

Yea, it doesn't charge, but its really never been an issue for me. I've got an iPod/iPhone charger in the truck I just hook it up when needed, which is rarely.

This is what I bought, Am really happy with it and since my CD changer was broken anyway, i didn't mind losing it.

I went this route, thanks Cristian.

AB and Grom looked nice too.
Took about 5 minutes to get the the little releases on the radio.
Thirty minutes to hook up, test, stuff back into the dash.
Instructions were a little vague in that they neglected to tell you to leave the green and orange multiplugs disconnected; just hook up the blue one.
Works like a charm.

Now, does anyone make an 8-track adapter?

I bought the Blitzsafe for my 04 DII but could not get it to recognize my iphone. Apparently the stock headunits that have Navigation, will not work. I even tried swapping headunits from other DII, to no avail.
The manufacture could not provide assistance either. Anybody get it work in their 04 with nav?

I can't find a definitive answer....

1999 and 2000 D2:
My trucks have no CD player, but do have the connector already in place.

Anyone know if I hack the line-in to the head unit using C1354, will it work even without the CD player connected?

I'm just gonna splice into the connector under the seat with a mini-jack and see what happens.....If it works, I'll just hack up my extra head unit connector (C1354) just for the mini-jack. I want to be able to plug my computer (Media Center) in as well....

Another great way to keep the stock system but add A2DP Bluetooth, line-in, USB charging and iphone/BB/smartphone integration among other cool features is Motorola TK30. Used to be priced in hundreds I got one recently for only about $70, installing it on my other car. Its got its own mike that goes on the steering column, and with its ISO harness should be a complete plug and play with a D2. If I had not done away with a completely different aftermarket head unit after my stock one went crazy I would have done this! All you have to do is remove the stock unit, connect everything, route the mike, and the face, and hide the control box behind the glove box-- voila! Highly recommend it. Well, things missing from this scenario would be HD radio, XM and backup cam that my new head unit offers, but you get to keep the stock, including the CD changer. Sat radio could be added via line in, but it means adding an extra screen as well.

Sounds like the GROM is the way to go.

I highly recommend the Grom unit. It's nice that you can use the steering controls. It's some of the best money I've spent on my truck. Plus you can sell your cd changer to pay for it. CD are as pointless as tapes and VHS anyway.

Do your steering wheel controls work with the ipod or do you need to change tracks using the ipod/phone?

The controls work for the ipod. You can change tracks and volume. You can also skip songs on pandora radio using the steering wheel. Grom charges your iphone so you don't need an addition charger which is a nice plus.
