I had thought of doing the same, but some on this forum have been burned by this guy.

The radio has a code, but I've never needed it. You need to get the pullers, I think the hooks face outwards, to get access to the back of the head unit.

Go with the GROM iPod adapter, it works great.

Anybody done this to the stock DII radio?

I've put plenty of aftermarket radios in; Crutchfield is in my backyard.

I want to keep the stock radio.
Anyone have experience with Roverville? http://home.valornet.com/splacket/roverville_US.htm

Also, some link me to DII radio removal. Do these things have a code? WTF?

I got the AUX in put in to my unit for some $70 or so, by someone I stumbled upon on ebay, they were selling the stock head units with the AUX in, and I just swapped mine (bought theirs and sent mine in for a refund). It still works fine, but the curios thing is that my Cruise control cuts out whenever the Radio is on now :smilelol: And I have no way of knowing if its related, which it may be, as there is some speed-sensing going on by the head unit to adjust the volume. I just left it all as is for now :)

i've had this for over 2 years now. works great and super easy to install, but you'll have to part with the 6 disc. it mounts under the passenger seat and plugs right into the harness that the cd changer was plugged into. then you just keep your head unit on cd and play all the mp3's you'd like. it comes with a 6' rcaX1/8" stereo connector that your ipod plugs into.

jeff, just get one of those cassette tape things from best buy.

I wish I could get you and Garrett to sit in the back and sing to me, but that's not likely to happen so I have to get a backup plan.

Why is Roverville a joke?
Bad customer service?

over there
garrett sings the chorus,

I close my eyes
only for a moment
and the moment's gone
all my dreams
pass before my eyes a curiosity
dust in the wind
all we are is dust in the wind

Same old song
just a drop of water
in the endless sea
all we do
crumbles to the ground
though we refuse to see
dust in the wind
all we are is dust in the wind

Now, don't hang on
nothing last forever
but the earth and sky
it slips away

And all your money
won't another minute buy

Dust in the wind
all we are is dust in the wind
dust in the wind
everything is dust in the wind

YES. there is a speed sensing volume feature on the HK trucks that have the extra sound processor mode or whatever, cant recall what it is called. there is not a real way to tell until you plug it in and try to access this mode. ill have to load the rave to read up about how it ties in later.

Are you thinking of Spatial Mode? If you are, then its not that, its just a slight surround.

But I do understand all HK head units do have speed sensitive volume (which is not switchable) ... i may be wrong.

The unit with AUX in i got from these guys had a new to me Spatial Mode, which is just a slightly detectable (if at all) layer of surround. My original head unit i sent to them did not have that, and they look 100% the same. Spatial option shows up after bass/treble/ etc.

yeah spatial. Im not sure how it all works together, but in a HK truck it is VERY noticeable. Is yours HK? i dont think the HU's can be swapped back and fourth and work 100%. also, 99-02 and 03-04 are different IIRC as well (color and possibly more), so there is 4 or more different HU's possible (alpine version)

The spatial alters the way the subs work, I think I covered this before and I am fairly sure I posted YouTube videos to illustrate.

I reached out to Roverville repeatedly when I wanted to have that overpriced service done on two of my trucks, and got nothing more than automated email responses. Phone calls went unawnsered too. Then I contacted him about several radios I wanted to get rid of, same shit. Just buy a digital media receiver and some decent speakers- the factory stuff is junk anyhow. I advocate completely rewiring the stereo too but that is probably beyond the average dwebbers skill level.
