Financials

why is it in trouble?
As noted in the Market Ticker post On The Edge of The Abyss

Yesterday Steve Liesman from CNBC "reported" that the Administration had a "bad bank" plan that was momentarily going to be rolled out. Tonight we learn that just as with the original "Super-SIV" from 2007 (which was essentially the same thing), the un-resolvable problem is that the banks will not sell for the mark-to-market price (or anything near it). The unspoken reason is if they were to take the market price they'd be rendered instantaneously bankrupt. (This, by the way, is an admission that they are intentionally mis-marking these "assets" on their book now, or they'd have already been seized!) The government will not buy at "par" or anything near it because to do so will cause the taxpayer to suffer a trillion dollar loss; Goldman (and Schumer) both said this is a potential $4 trillion problem. Ergo, its a Mexican Standoff and there is no solution. This means that nationalization is still on the table. It also means that we're back to the days of AMBAC and MBIA

Obama and Geithner want to purchase assets at "Mark to Model", which are inflated values. This bails out the bankers and moves the worthless assets to the taxpayer. A "Mark to Market" would instantly result in insolvency. Obama and Democrats are having a hard time selling mark to model to bail out their Ivy League constituents.

CHANGE . . .

Barack W. Obama

Washington Post

Two impressions emerge from President Barack Obama's first week in office:

Partisanship has reached a tipping point when the new president is circling the fire hydrant with a conservative talk-radio personality.

And, the new president is sounding an awful lot like the old one.

Let's roll the tape. . . .

Seriously, does Obama have any nominees or administration that DON'T have ethical and/or tax issues?

Geithner . . . . well covered.

Official: Performance czar withdraws candidacy
breitbart.com ^ | 02-03-09 | MICHAEL J. SNIFFEN and LIZ SIDOTI

WASHINGTON (AP) - Nancy Killefer, who failed for a year and a half to pay employment taxes on household help, has withdrawn her candidacy to be the first chief performance officer for the federal government, the White House said Tuesday. Killefer was the second major Obama administration nominee to withdraw and the third to have tax problems complicate their nomination after President Barack Obama announced their selection. . . .

The world has noticed the Obama hypocrisy on lobbyists
February 2, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Too bad the American media hasn’t kept as close an eye on Barack Obama and his promises to clean up government as the Times of India has. Noting that Obama has already issues 17 exceptions to his no-lobbyist rules in the first two weeks of his inauguration, they wonder how it could [be] worse:

Sitting in the doctor's office yesterday and picked up an October 08 issue of Time magazine to read while waiting. The article was on the financial sector and the bailouts - Three Men and a Bailout. Taking up one whole page was a picture of . . . . . . . Paulson, Bernanke, and Geithner. No change there.

Speaking of Biden, didn't he say paying taxes was patriotic?

What does this say about the current crop of Democrats?

Check this out: http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=271573. Biden fumbled while giving the oath to Clinton. It wouldn't be so funny, except that he had to take jabs at Roberts when he fumbled giving the oath to Obama.

Biden is such a fumbling pompous ass. I can't stand him. Obama's gonna have to put a leash on his ass. Like when he was jabbing at Roberts, Obama had to walk over and touch his arm and look at him with this look of disgust, like,"Hey, what the fuck are you doin? Shut the fuck up and quit being an arrogant asshole. Do you understand anything about PR?" What an idiot.

Yesterday Obama was asked if he supported Daschle . . . .

"Absolutely"

I really don't think Obama Democrats 'see' the ethics issues. Remember, they are Chicago politicians brought up in the Alinsky way. Corruption is just part of the day to day business, normal.

Alinski's Rules: Must Reading In Obama Era
IBD ^ | 2-02-09 | PHYLLIS SCHLAFLY

post #7 - Alinsky's "rules for the ethics of power politics"

1. One's concern with the ethics of means and ends varies inversely with one's personal interest in the issue.
2. The judgment of the ethics of means is dependent upon the political position of those sitting in judgment.
3. In war the end justifies almost any means.
4. Judgment must be made in the context of the times in which the action occurred and not from any other chronological vantage point.
5. Concern with ethics increases with the number of means available and vice versa.
6. The less important the end to be desired, the more one can afford to engage in ethical evaluations of means.
7. Generally, success or failure is a mighty determinant of ethics.
8. The morality of means depends upon whether the means is being employed at a time of imminent defeat or imminent victory.
9. Any effective means is automatically judged by the opposition to be unethical.
10. You do what you can with what you have and clothe it in moral garments.
11. Goals must be phrased in general terms like &"Liberty, Equality, Fraternity," "Of the Common Welfare," "Pursuit of Happiness," or "Bread and Peace."

The Senate bill also adds a $300 payment to seniors, disabled people and others who can't work, and suspends taxes on the first $2,400 of unemployment benefits.
Can't work, or don't work?

Not surprised, just amazed Obama has crashed so quickly.

Obama Getting Heat for Turning Up the Oval Office Thermostat
Fox ^ | 2/3/2009 | Fox

President Obama lectured voters during the campaign about the need to make sacrifices for the environment. But now it's warm and toasty in the White House -- so much so that aides have likened it to a tropical hot house -- and Obama is under fire for turning up the heat.

. . .

During a campaign event in Oregon in May, Obama said we have to "lead by example." "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times," he said.

"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen." . . . .

in the sanctum sanctorum of executive power, Obama has kept it steamy -- literally.

You know, I don't care where he sets the thermostat.
Shit, my house is toasty warm in winter, while my neighbor prefers to wear a coat and hat indoors over turning on the heat.
But, I'm not the guy who said "I'm not turning up my thermostat, look how wonderful I am".

Barack Obama fights to maintain a grip on the US political agenda
Telegraph (U.K.) ^ | February 4, 2009 | Toby Harnden

President Barack Obama is fighting to maintain control of the American political agenda after being rocked by a series of setbacks.

He has admitted "screwing up" key White House appointments and now faces possible defeat in the Senate over his economic stimulus bill.

He was also condemned by High Court judges in Britain after it emerged his administration was standing by a threat to halt intelligence co-operation in a row over the alleged torture of a Guantanamo Bay detainee.

Despite his best efforts, Mr Obama found himself being compared to George W. Bush, . . .

From what I remember of how energized and predictive Obama's supporters were on this forum about how well he was going to do, I'm shocked to see that we don't have a thread open about how good of a job he's been doing since he's taken over the reigns...

Huh. Interesting. I guess no one has anything to say then...

Not sounding like the racist I am but the last 2 times Ive reported to a Black Director both failed miserably. We had a huge turnover of staff major contracts were lost and both were totally in love with themselves. The last one tried to punch out the base operations manger for not listening to him... I wont go into the worthless affrimative action blacks i served with in the Navy....

I see Obama the same way an over educated arrogant black man with a very large ego who has no idea how to deliver because he has no experience delivering anything other than an feeding his over inflated ego... Yep a community organizer is what we need to rebuild our government..

Notice I was nice and did not use the N-word and I don't want to call him a African American because i believe he was born in Kenya and he does not deserve that respect from me...

Head lines today he backed of the American Made Clause..... Were in this shit now because foreign influence owns too much of our country....

Don't go there with I have issues,,,, One of my best friends is of color
