Jim,
good to know. thanks for sharing, and if you've got part numbers, I'd like to have them!

I wonder if this goes for a D1 as well....

The more (longer) i drive it the happier i am that i did this preventive maintenance.

as i said my shaft was not shot but loose, floopy, you know what i mean.

my keys vibrated and loose coins in the cup holder resonated.

all is quiet on the disco front.

Now just make sure you grease it on a regular basis, use something non-black so you can see the fresh grease coming out.

Hmm.

Maybe that will be on my xmas list. Might be about the right time for a new front driveshaft at ~54k miles. Anybody else used the "Durango" shaft to confirm that it will work on a D2 with the 1310s?

How similar is that to what GBR and T Woods use?

edit: Jimbo, keep us updated.

Freakin awesome, glad I caught this the second time around. Wish I knew a year ago when I did my joints, definitely would have done this.

Edit: is this any Durango or certain years only?

Instead of plugging up all the grease fittings you could change them out to the flush type fittings. You'll need to get a needle tip for your grease gun though.

I would also like to know what year Durango this shaft is from. I need to do something very soon as I just started to get some vibrations when I hit about 30mph. I don't want any damage to come due to it coming apart at the wrong time.

A model number or part number would be extremely helpful.

I see this came to the top again
so
I just got off the phone with the shaft guy.

Im reluctant to post info that can kick back on me
But
as the thread says and as per shaft man.Shaft man on the phone today was not as knowlageble as senior shaft man i didi business with.

The durango front shaft is used in many vehicles as well as a Disco II

They use the core durango shaft and rebuild it with heavy duty spicer stuff.

as said above the core shaft is heavy dudty compared to the original and i can say it definately is looking at them side by side , for one the cardon is much heavier.

overall it worked and is still smooth as silk.

L.I. Drive Shaft 631-348-1818

Disclaimer:
as i said above i dont know drive shafts and i only know what was said to me by shaft man and i know mine worked very well.

My front driveshaft had just started give me some vibrations. I made the call and ordered the driveshaft. Delivered to my address in NY state in two days. It came with Spicer u-joints, greased and ready to install.

I took a few pictures of the stock shaft and the replacement between removal & installation to compare the two. It looks as though the front u-joint on the stock DS was already replaced, since it has a grease nipple. The forward u-joint in the rear of the driveshaft was beginning to fail.

The whole job took about two hours, with a break in between to take some pics and get the blood flowing back in my arms. Working on my back with arms reaching up above is tiresome. Two 14mm or 9/16 wrenches were all that was needed. If I had a longer socket extension it would have made the job a bit quicker yet.

Anyhow, here are the pictures to check out.

So how much was it delivered?

Did you order it from the LI guy?

Are those Spicer joints? Why aren't the nipples on the ends?

It was $400 delivered to Fulton County, NY from L.I. I could have got some money back for the core, but I'm in Canada and sending it down would just cost enough to make it not worth the effort. I'll rebuild and sell it.

The u-joints say Spicer on them, so I can only assume that's what they are. Don't know why the nipples aren't 'on the ends'. As long as they're accessible...
