holy shit. i just wasted a solid 2 hours reading that thread...

this is precisely the reason why i avoid "clubs" like the plague. any more then 5 trucks and you end up with this kind of clusterf*ck. but for real, with all the open land and beautiful weather you west coasters have, id think you would be the happiest go lucky people on the planet. what went wrong out there? as for this..

As far as my opinion on drinking on the trails; Just like drinking at home, in a bar, with dinner, etc. It is the choice and responsability of the driver to determine what his/her limits and comfort levels are.

ill have to disagree.. you shouldnt drink on the trails. thats dangerous. smoke refer instead :p

that was humor.. obviously a failed attempt at it. i do my best to keep a clear mind on the trail. at the campsite after the run, thats a different story.

disclaimer: the smoking dope comment was made in jest. :jester:

I never drop more than 1 hit at lunch on the trail, then kick back with 3 or 4 around the campfire.
Not counting the 2 in my morning coffee. du-u-ude!

When it comes to drinking on the trails, leave the bottles for home. Glass doesn't like bouncing around in the cooler(and the empties make lots of racket in the garbage bag in the back of your truck). Stick with canned beer, makes life a whole lot easier whilst drinking and wheeling. Just my opinion though.

Having met Roger and his wife at RR7 and hung out with him a bit at camp, all I can say is I'm shocked that has been implicated in this nonsense. They are good people, new to Rover's & wheeling & clubs and I wouldn't blame him if he split this scene.

But he didn't. Instead he chose to take this on directly and even further, picked up the phone to try and sort this misunderstanding out.

Having camped next to Roger, I know he's one of those dudes that is tidy & clean. Every piece of gear he had in his truck was in a box or bag, neatly stowed. No trash EVER laying around his camp.

That said, I spoke with some others on this topic yesterday off-line. Let me draw a comparison here if I may. I am an avid bow hunter here in Montana. While it's generally accepted, there are "anti-hunters" always looking for a reason to hate hunters. Thus, I do not enter the gorcery store in my camo to buy beer. If we head out to eat breakfast or something after or before hunting, we keep our conversations to another topic, not the gut pile we just left on the North Fork range.

What I'm saying is, whether we like it or not, when we roll our Rover to an event of Rover's each person represents the next. Not just your group...everyone. One person litters and we're all a bunch of "littering Rover a-holes." One person is seen drinking beer at his rig on the trail and we're all a bunch of drunks. Death Valley is a National Park with many families visiting. They don't know we just had one beer...it's justa sad fact.

Trust me when I tell you I deal with this subject often. For starters, I guide flyfishing trips on the river here in the summer. And yes, we enjoy a beer or two during the day. Always wrapped in a cuzzi to keep prying eyes off. When we break for lunch or camp, we spend time picking up every bit of trash...not ours, but our responsibility--it's ours to maintain.

Perception is reality. John sees pictures of people drinking on the trail...remembers trash he found...and well, this is the perfect example. In hindsight he may have jumped the gun, but understand that he's simply quick to react to protect the Land Rover identity.

Roger, you did the right thing here by taking this head-on. And I am quite certain that John is a man of his word and will remove or correct anything in relation to this.

A great learning experience for all, for sure. This is clearly the value of collective input from all results in. Some people just employ more tact than others.

EE just lost my business, I Read their post on their web site where they trashed Two people they had no business talking about. I've been out of the seen off road scene for awhile then I saw this (*&^-off EE Here is a quote

************** freely admits to drinking on the trail at Rover Rendezvous, and not just at lunch (not that drinking at a lunch break and then hitting the trail immediately thereafter is acceptable behavior). I guess ******* was bored enough on the trail that he felt the need to down a beer while waiting for the group to get moving.

Not putting in names cause that just messed up. One beer is not going to get this guy drunk or impair he is a big guy. Second it was a hour long wait one or two beers in a hour???? Please Get off your high horse. Now if people where slamming down Whiskey and crap like that then ya thats a issue but a beer or two????

Second Lay-off the board members of SCLR You had them sound like a underground society. Boards always meet behind closed doors.

Some of you need to relax. A lot of eastcoast fokes here are right we're to high strung. Now i not saying drinking while driving on a trail and dumping you bottle on the ground is ok, but if you going to be stuck somewhere for a hour while someone fixes something or the trail is backed up too the point people are braking out the lawn chairs then yes a beer is ok( not hard booze). This is the main reason I have not join any clubs or go on big outing cause of this crap, I only now wheel with two or three of my close friends.

Montana, Thanks for your kind words. it was great to meet you as well.

As far as John at EE, he did remove the pics (thanks) but doesn't seem to understand how to keep busines and personal opinions seperate and now continutes to rail me on his site. I have nothing more to say about him or EE.
