Cut me a little slack with the search deal.
Ive read them all and im confused.

My shaft is shot (not realy but)so i took it to a drive shaft shop.
He said he couldnt do it.

I went to another.
He had one on the shelf with spicer joints heavy ,thick walled tube.
It looks the same , smells the same ,tastes the same, measures the same,

But
The Cardon frame is slightly different , more beefy.
Everything else micrometered and measured and calipered out correctly.
I bought it (225.00) but havnt installed it YET.

seems to good to be true.

I need positive input

what do yous guys thinks.

where will i get fucked on this deal.

Yeah i here ya.
First guy said he didint think he could get the joints.
I knew i could get them after finding the info here and said so.
his Bull mastiff then lunged at me and ripped my greasy coveralls.
He copped an attitude, his dog copped an attitude
i shit my pants .
I left .

Next stop and he has it on the shelf.
tells me its identical to a dodge durango front shaft and it kinda is.
Im wonder ing if the heafty cardon housing is going to touch somewhere and the,
slip shaft is longer in the neck if you get me.

I will bolt it in in the am
but being me just aint easy and im sure something will go fucked up.
I was thinking someone would say it looks and smells the same but it aint.

Kinda feeling out you experts.

To good to be true

Enquiring minds want to know!

FWIW, the Jeeps use a very similar driveshaft, there is one on a truck out behind the shop.

Time will tell

if its good or not.

rovers are not as special as everyone wants to think...it will be just fine I bet.

just to boost your confidence keep in mind that spicer makes most this stuff for the oem's anyways so commonality is not at all rare across different makes

It went in smooth and spins smooth.
My keys are no longer shaking.

The bolts were a bitch as the cardon is bigger only alowing the use of a thin wall
14mm box wrench , i could not use a socket and extension.

The slip shaft ,slips in a different place than the original so the Grease fitting on the shaft is a 1/4 inch from hitting the right cat.
So it seems The Shaft Guy was right ,a Dodge Durango and D2 use the same front shaft.

Useful thread....but 1/4" ain't that much clearance....can you remove it and plug it with an allen plug like on the OEM shaft? Also are the U Joints servicable or does this shaft have factory sealed UJs like the Land Rover part....do you have a source/part number? I will be having to redo my front shaft soon also as IO have 36K on my 04 and won't be taking any chances on the exploding UJs the factory thoughtfully included.

$250 for a new shaft is a good deal, however, you can get the u-joints for $20/ea x 3 and the center ball bearing for $20 = $80. Then $50 for labor, or do it yourself. Basic hand tools and some patients this is a easy job.

The shop that said he couldn't do it is funny!! My suggestion is just take it to a driveline shop. Napa stocks rover u-joints. Rockauto.com sells them, and local six states around here stocks them too.

roverpixie dust sometimes....lol

I needed it done NOW as im traveling for business , coming home and driving it
a long distance to Deer camp.I didnt have the time and the vibes got worse even though the Joints had no play in them but were floppy.
So 225.00 was a good deal , and a better deal now that its in without a problem.

Jim,
is the driveshaft you put in any stronger than the OEM one? Would this be an alternative to the more expensive aftermarket driveshafts?

Just got off the phone with the shaft guy.

Dodge and L.R. (Disco anyway)use same flanges.
Dodge has beefier cardon , and thicker tube.
So
This guy said they sell the shaft as heavy duty replacement for disco
and stock replacement for dodge.

Im only saying what was said to me.

Jimjet...thanks, part number would be great...sounds like a nice and inexpensive upgrade frankly...and to the rest of the BB...changing these out yourself isn't always as easy as it should be ...just did the job on my 78 MGB...it was a TOTAL bitch and a half!...and it's a weedy piece of crap compared to a D2 propshaft!
