You shouldn't use it to tow a Barbie car with it like that. Just order a replacement bar and you're done. What kind is it?

Champion appear to be another crappy cheap winch. I don't think they are rebadged Superwinches. I will check with SW when I talk to them next time.

That's just the thing, I have NO idea... I can't find any branding information at all, and there's a bunch of "----------------" where it says serial number.

I'll post some pics later on, maybe you guys will have some insight.

Measure the distance between the bars. Likely that a standard Warn, Superwinch or MM could work.

Regardless don't use it.

But why get rid of a cheap winch to only replace it with another cheap one. The price difference is like the cost of filling up the Rover 4 times at most.

I know, I've successfully avoided needing it, so far... Good idea on checking the length and replacing it with another company's, I'll give that a shot. If that doesn't work, I'll have to replace it, I guess.

Once you own a 8274 you'll understand the hype.

Yes people rebuild them because they last long enough to not just be tossed in the trash and ARE easily rebuildable. :)

The solenoids can be remote mounted and while they are tough to fit in some bumpers they are not actually "that" big at all.

Think I could mount one in a Scorpion bumper?

Depends on how much of your grill you plan to keep :D

Looking at your bumper on a RRC there will be cutting...

I could give a crap about the grill... It's the other things in that area I'm worried about. The winch I have in there now is already pretty tightly wedged in, take a look.

If I could seriously trim the grill to fit one of those 8274s, and could find one to rebuild for cheap, I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I'm not going to spend 500 bux on a used winch.

I was at sams club the other day and they had a pallet of 10K winches that were marked Champion, but the style and knob to release the cable looked very familiar. It was the T style that you pull up and do a 1/4 turn. I'm drawing a blank on who makes one like that. They were $299. Which seems like a deal for the size, even though they are champion. I have a champion already and it works for what I do, but isn't the same style as the one I saw in sams.

Be careful with these. I originally bought a 10K Champion from Costco. When I got it home and read the instructions, it STRONGLY recommended using the pulley block to double the line to pull more than 6000lbs. I got the impression it's really a 6000lb winch with a free pulley block. I brought it back.

The bumpers Bill and Kris have are the COMP style ones.

Same applies to Equipe, if you look on D-90 there are two bumbers from Equipe ( look identical to SR or shall I say the SR look like Equipe) one on my 110 and it is the STANDARD and one on Wolf Fabrication's 110, he has the COMP, I did not need to cut anything to mount a SW Epi9.0s, but he has to cut a quite a bit to mount any winch.

Find a used 8274 - best winch ever.

X2. Used this winch during my volunteer days at Red Cross, fitted to hilux truck for five years and never never failed. Fast, reliable and easy to maintain winch.

you guy's know that the strength of the pull depends on which wrap you are at on the drum. Right...

this from a mm 8k winch and a warn 12k

simple physics, double the pull, increase the pull strength

and 3x on the 8274

Not to mention you only get a mechanical advantage when you use the snatch block and bring the line back to the vehicle.

Each additional layer on the drum will decrease the pulling power by around 10-15%.

This is why you get as much off the drum as possible. Too many people pull 30 feet off the winch and start recovering because they are to lazy to walk another 60 feet and get more line off the drum. Pick and item to recovery to that is well beyond your "stuck" area.

If you only have one tree to winch to that's 30 feet away then run the line through a snatch block and bring it back to the truck.

Do whatever it takes to get the line off - increasing the pulling power. The winch will only work at it's rated number if you're on the first layer of the drum as Mongo mentioned.

I'm aware of that. My EP9 pulls more on the 5th wrap than whatever that 8k winch does on the 2nd. I looked at those types of figures when I bought mine which is why I spent a little more on the EP9.

What is that 8k you listed anyway?

Funny how now you post that winch strength increases as you get line off the winch, but not in your original post...I just pulled 2 random pages to show the difference, and a 8k winch is strong enough for a Disco.
