Got it out...hardly any drama. The woman I gave my camera to apparently doesn't know how to operate one correctly...so, no piccies from me.

I'll ask those who were there for copies.

Thanks for the support/well wishes/advice. Glad that it was a no-biggie intead of something else.

I've got some ideas for some 'interesting things' we can do out there over the next few months.

The Air Force is detonating/burning a 500,000 ICBM rocket engine out there in August, there is a cave full of stolen building materials and lawn care equpment that needs to be cleaned up (2 15-foot trailers and two big pickups ought to do it...according to the testing and training range PR man I spoke with...).

Then there's the thought that we can go out there and actually test the various things to use for self-recovery, signalling, communication, etc...

So, get out your Wasatch Rovers planning calendar and let's schedule some fun out in the west desert!

I'm totally down for that. I spent a weekend out there a few weeks ago...drove from Hwy 50 by the House Range, past Fish Springs and Dugway on the Pony Express route...had a blast.

The only problem is that it's insanely dusty out there. I'm still cleaning dust out of my truck and camping gear! I'm not sure that I want to drive through that again.

Mike,

Is the 145 still for sale? If so, can I get it at a significant discount now that I know how much abuse the truck has taken:p

It's not considered 'abuse'...I look at it as 'perfecting'. ;)

Yes, it's still for sale...I want to change a few things though before someone buys it. I can always make it a little better.

I would have killed for that Red Dot this weekend while driving up the Owens Valley. There just ain't no shortcuts with fitting an AC to a Defender. If I ever win the lotto I think a Red Dot and a new engine are must haves.

Mike,

This may help other's....and give newbies some new ideas on what to spend their summer bonus...

A bigger spade-----or some new furry dice for the dash board

while you were out there....stuck......

what were the things that were going through your head ?

man I wish I'd have had ..........more water/sat phone/pull pall/signal flares/Inflatable jack...etc etc.

How far off the nearest road on your own is OK. ???

What did you try in trying to get yourself out...in hindsight what would you have done diferent

In venoland, I usually only went as far off road as I could walk back to a travelled rd in a day, if other recent tracks were there, or a village in the direction of travel I'd go two days walk.
