I always carry my dad's old folding shovel that he was issued in the military. I use it all the time. I've been thinking about getting a full-size spade with a short handle but I don't want to end the folding shovel tradition.

So keep it as a backup.

One wouldl think that Knewsom would have a big ass shovel in Washington, DC to shovel all the bullshit out of the way from the White House and Capitol Building.

The shovel is the one tool that will get you out and not break. I try everting else first. But when all else fails I go to the shovel.

"It" always carries a shovel.

Thanks alot, Mike. Now I'm gonna have freaking nightmares. How did a harmless thread about shovels turn into a psycho-clown picture show?:p

You use the shovel to dig trenches for the wheels, to dig out crap that may be grounding your vehicle somewhere, to move obstacles, to bury a spare tire, to dig a latrine, to dig a moat around a tent, to dig a hole if you don't have a tent, to pile dirt up one side of the vehicle to stop air from passing beneath it if you are sleeping on the other side, to dig a fire pit, and any number of things. They are very useful.

How can a man with a shovel be called a poser? I thought everyone had a shovel somewhere.

Cheers,

Kennith

I'll probably be made to regret it; somehow. But, I whole heartedly agree. After, sliders and Lockers it may be the most useful piece of equipment in the truck. You'll find more uses for it than we can collectively list in a month.

My crank shaft position sensor failed as my dad and brother were driving my truck on the high tide line of a deserted beach. Tide was rising. My bro dug a trench for two hours to keep the truck from getting lapped by the largest waves.

Without the shovel, truck would have been buried to the axel in sand and salt water.

But then again, they didn't try to start it again for 2 hours, and it would have likely started after 20min. Not sure what the malfunction was there.

Still, pack the shovel.

All good points, especially the clowns. Who the hell even likes clowns, anyways?
I picked up a Jackson shovel from Lowes today. Now I just have to figure out where to mount it. I don't want the weight nazi's to come down on me if I throw it on the spare tire. :D

My daughter's already got that! I've probably got a Spiderman and Transformers one too. ;)

There you go. You've got a crew with their own equipment. You can return yours to Lowe's now...
