i have been thinking about using royal purple in my 03 disco...any thoughts? i'm currently using mobile1 10w40

Its a little skimp in the sheer rating. Mobil one is good, but I would point you to the 0-40 Euro Formula.

I have been using the Rotella Syn. Switch from Mobil 1 5w30. The engine definitely runs smoother and saved money!

Chris turned my Rover on to the OW40 Mobil1 and it runs like a top. Even at 6000 miles on the current 0W40 oil change, it still runs quieter and smoother than what I was running with the Mobil1 Hi-Mi 10W40, hell I even ran 20W50 in it for a while. 0W40 for me is great down here in S. Texas because it really doesn't get that cold and it works really well in the heat here. Pours in like water, but works great.

Also, dont forget ACEA requires 7-10,000 miles between oil changes. 3,000 mile oil changes on a 7 qt system is a waste.

Let me ask you this... If your 10-40 wasn't doing the job, how would you know?
By getting a UOA or tearing down the engine.

I just got a UOA of Mobil 0w40 that was in a porsche. Have a look.

It has been the only oil in the 3.6L. It held up very well for 7400 miles. Didn't shear a whole lot and kept wear to a minimum.

Yep. Most people dont do that though. Most people think if the engine runs, nothing bad is happening. Without looking/testing, the cam can grind away and the driver woudl never know it.

About. Less then Royal purple.

I was at the zone today, and looked at the RP bottle. The only spec it shows is SM.

Here in STL, the m1 was 6.99 a quart and RP was 8.99
