Some of these wholesale places that specialize in former state vehicles have Crown Vics from universities and other state organizations that don't beat the piss out their cars. They can get around a race track quite nicely too - you'd be surprised. :)

Yea, I am having a hard time identifying these places.

Take a drive down to South Golden Road.
There's a consignment car dealer there with a buncha SUVehicles. Bear-something-or-other.
Right next door is LinDen Engineering.
If you're not the fix-it-yourself type of fella, go say hi to Dennis; he owns LinDen.
He'll be your go-to rover guy.

There's another small used car lot down the road, too.
For a nominal fee, Dennis will check out a used vehicle for you.
If it's a rover you're looking at, he has the magic box to talk to them.

I am definitly a fix it myself kind of guy.

My wife drives a 2003 MDX with 217k miles. If I buy a "nice" used car, I think I will just fly to Houston, hang out with a good friend of mine and then drive back in a used Acura MDX. They are cheaper than used Honda Pilots in Denver. The only know issue with those things is the transmission cooler will break off dumping all the trans fluid causing failure of the trans. That Radiator/cooler is only $170 plus fluids.

LOL

There are a lot of ex-patrol chargers around here if you look. But I'm a fan of the tahoe...

Seriously considering one of these myself. The PPV version (2wd) is the one to get as the 4wd model isn't "pursuit rated". Have had a number of Crown Vic's over the years and for where where my interests are taking me now, the '07-'13 Tahoe PPV fits. Still not ready to actually pull the trigger yet though...

I've had the '07+ generation Tahoe as a rental many times and I really like the vehicle. It has relatively decent mileage if you can keep your foot out of it. Rides great, quiet, clean design, lots of power, tons of room and appears to be pretty reliable. Been toying with buying one for a while now. Overland white of course.

I could never get a 2wd version though. Unless you slapped some Hakkapeliitta's on it.

I have an '05 Suburban 4x4 (prior body style) that I am really happy with and that's my main hesitation to getting one of these. Why have two large SUVs?? It hasn't stopped me before, but I lived in CT then and having a RRC, Suburban and F350 up there made sense. Down here, 4wd isn't as necessary.

Stay away from the '07+ chevys unless the engine has been replaced. Then, turn off the active fuel management system.

Seeing as you're in Palm Beach now just go for the Cadillac Brougham and be done.

HA!!! Yep - there are still a few of those around but the owners are dying off. Those cars are still getting "donked" by their subsequent purchasers. Seems like the "new" stereotypical Palm Beach car is the E-Class Mercedes. They are freakin' everywhere now.

That being said, dropping an LS3 into a big GM chassis could be pretty fun...

I understand what you are saying.

but i am beyond broke right now. I was just trying to hold off on buying something untill my wife a got a job.

My other option is to just get new base Imprezia with super cheap car payments, then replace my wife's car with something when that day comes. She is the primary kid hauler, so she needs something a bit bigger than I.

Private party Sub, Monument Motors and Summit Auto would be your best bet for Sub. But I really am not a Sub fan after owning one. Certainly not an impreza. Likely to have high insurance as well.

Frankly if I were going to go new or nearly new on a car built for CO, while I had an allowance it would be a Tacoma. Hands down.

You should at least give Kia an Hyundai a chance if you are considering Sub.

yea i was browsing the sub forums and they seem to think motors blowing up at 150k miles is okay.

The Tacoma is crazy expensive. It really is. I would love to own one but damn!

Again the more I look, I think I am may just go to Houston and come back with a used Acura. They are built very well, parts cost the same as Honda and I dont know a single person who has ever been disappointed by a honda/acura

Lately, all the really bad drivers I've noticed have been in Toyotas.
So, that means there's just so damned many of them on the road, statistically, there will be more bad drivers in them.
Or, you have to be an asshole to drive a Toyota.
I just can't figure out if you have to be an asshole before you buy one, or if having one turns you into an asshole.

I've got to agree. I was looking for a used one, but trying finding one (4WD not 2WD) under $10K that isn't 10+yrs old and with > 250K miles? good luck.

Land Rover owners seem to think that doing head gasket jobs every 75,000 miles is the norm. Not to mention the slipped liners, cracked blocks from overheating, etc. We all have our quirks.

I do not disagree with you in general. What I do disagree with is the generalization that Subaru are so bullet proof. I would likely not have such a bad taste in my mouth had I not had problems with mine and if I had not bought it brand new. I was less pleased with it than my '95 Disco (also bought new). However between the two of them, I am certain that I will never own a new vehicle again -- its about as likely as a lottery win.

Here's a really nice one. Manual trans and rear e locker. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ctd/4739070832.html My favorite generation Taco too.

Thanks for making my point. An 11 year old truck with 162K miles and they want $13K? really?

Yes, it is in very good shape, but what did that sell for in 2003? $27K? That's crazy.

And ones that aren't that nice still command $8-10K price tags.

[that is my favorite gen Taco too. Hence my frustration:mad:]

Edit: Here's a 2012 CPO with 48K miles for $20k. Makes more sense to buy a recent version.
