Oh, and those 4 bolts on top...dont drill holes and run them through the black panel that is rivetted on. Mine whole truck vibrated like a mother!! Good luck!! You'll love it when you are done.

Just have to drill out 13 rivets after that. Drillbit is 3/16ths.

Down to the transmission. You will have to wiggle the hell out of the pan but it will come out.

Heres the CDL nipple ive been digging for. Now i just have to figure out how to connect it. Every thing is nice and free but im soaking it in oil overnight anyway. Tomorrow starts with another damn blood test and then its time to connect brackets and reassemble. Has anyone made the linkage i need. Does anyone have a picture of the stock one that i can copy from?

I see that you popped out the little star nut and plastic fitting to remove the shifter cable from the shifter mechanism. Those little pieces are fragile and hard to replace. For those out there who want to do this mod, IMHO I think it's easier to just disconnect the cable from the transmission under the truck, as outlined in the ashcroft 04 linkage instructions and remove the shifter and cable together. It's a lot easier and no worries about little pieces or tearing the rubber boot near the cable strain relief ...

Print it. Courtesy of the Tony Cerrone from LRRForum. great write up.

Just finished my install on my 2001 wed. These instructions saved me alot of time and headaches. I recommend following closely, especially the part about using the the top plate from the D1 shift to gauge how where to cut on the tunnel cover. i was off a little and have a bit of the cover touching the shifter housing so I'm getting a little vibes. Not bad though, but I'll have to go in there with a dremel some day. Have fun. Took me ~7hrs including a trip to Home depot and a lunch break.

It would be worth it if you just joined and got the instructions. Costs free! My $.02.

Question of the day. I got the cdl linkage made and adjusted. When i engaged it in the garage the red light on the dash lit up when engaged and went off when disengaged. It lit up with the key on and engine running. I backed out of the garage put it in neutral and engaged the cdl but the light didnt come on. I can see that it is still engaged im just not getting the light. The hi-lo works just fine and there is no binding on the linkage. Is the no light normal or did i break something?

Here is a pic of the shifter disengaged in high. The second is a pic of the shifter engaged in high. Before i moved the truck this would turn the light on and off. Now it doesnt.

In m truck sometimes you have to drive a few feet for the light to turn on or off. (Forward or reverse) It does not always illuminate just by engaging it.

I am still going to get the factory linkage when i find one. Ill install it when i get the lift kit.:D There is only one major difference inside the truck. The shifter is farther to the right side. It doesnt hurt anything it just looks odd. Im sure ill get used to it.
