Oh come on. I'm going to "slap in" an LT230 in the UPS truck. Next, I'll "slap in" a front TT and HD axles and CV's. Some day I'll "slap in" a 4.6 as well.

I'm impressed that you "slapped in" the external speaker for the 706! lol

Uh, well that is an appropriate description. I really appreciated it at RR7-Thanks!

Actually, it's just sitting on my console.

First, I need a couple months of pondering where to place it.

Then, I'll end up hurriedly sticking it anyplace 5 minutes prior to leaving for a wheeling trip...

#3 Remove old T-case, install new t-case

Paul, I think you mean "slap it in" :)

Fact: this part of the operation requires a few intermediary steps including, but not limited to: Y-pipe removal, cross member removal, both driveshafts, dipstick, rear motor mounts, tilt motor and transmission backward, then remove and install. Reverse the process to get it all back together.

All in all not a complicated job, but not one you do on your lunch break.

This truck is a POS, has always been a POS, and has never had the requisite work done to it to make it anything other than a show truck. At best this rig should be cleaned up and left sitting in the driveway of some dude with adequacy issues.

I guess it depends on how skilled you are and having the right tools to do the job. I do however agree that in order to spin those larger tires the axles would certainly need some work.

How extreme can you get without a center diff lock?

Extreme looking I suppose....

If it's an 03, then it does have CDL, just no lever to engage it. 2002 is the only year that did not come with a CDL case from what I had been told, which pissed me off because I feel like LR lied to me when we bought our 02' new. I had specifically asked if the power transfer was 50/50 when low range was engaged, to which the dealer told me YES, indicating there was central differential lock capability. Land Rover should have a factory recall to install CDL in all 02' DII models in my opinion.

On this vehicle, I don't like the huge tires. I like tires around 31-33" at the most.

Later build '01, '02, and '03 have no CDL "nipple" that would connect to a lever. On these trucks, you would need to "slap in" an entirely new TC.

You can't trust a sales guy to know anything about what he is selling... that's your job as a buyer.

I think everybody can agree with you on the tires though!

Your were told incorrectly. See cmoore's post. He's correct.

You can put an 18 year old kid in a modified D90 and watch him get stuck in 5 minutes or you can put a veteran off-roader in a 2wd pickup and watch him go right by the stuck 18 year old laughing his (_!_) off!

As an 18 year old kid, I'd LOVE to wager some money against your theory.

I have nothing against 03 DIIs, Tad, as I've seen a few on the trails that really impressed me. But for my personal taste (and if I was buying a newer Disco), I'd go with something with CDL. ESPECIALLY something as "built" as this rig.

I guess since I'm the only one on this thread trying to defend a Series II without CDL I should have expected all this, but Ash I don't think I mentioned your name when I made that earlier comment.

If I could have bought my 03 with CDL it would have been nice, but back when I bought my 03 the 04's weren't out yet so I can't complain. My 03 has been a very reliable rig and with the 05 Rubicon and 94 RRC at home I probably don't take my 03 out on the most extreme trails, but I do take it through plenty of serious off-road situations and when I hear people calling earlier Series II Mall Cruisers it really ticks me off! If you want to call a Land Rover a Mall Cruiser please start bashing the 100% uni-body, IFS/IRS, no low range , no V8 LAND ROVER FREELANDER and not the 99-03 Series II Land Rover Discoveries.

Having watched 03s and 04s side by side, never go without a CDL.

oh my gosh yall are still chit chatting about his truck i think some of you are jelous. my 03 goes where i want it to go. CDL is only like 4-5 hundered bucks, it's cheaper to buy than tires. it's a cool truck CDL is an easy mod no need to act like a CDL is everything under the sun it's a quick swap.
