My 2000 DII POS decided to do this today, same symptoms. 80$ for a damn sensor, I hate rovers!. Plugs, and other things seem okay...So....I will order a crank sensor tomorrow and hopefully the problem will just go away.

Having these symptoms and ready to replace the CPS. RAVE says this:

"Whenever a new crankshaft position sensor is fitted or the flywheel is removed, the adaptive values will have to be reset, using TestBook."

Is this necessary?

No, install and start the engine. Should be fine.

I had the same symptons you mentioned about 2 years ago and turned out to be a bad inertia switch, would keeping 'popping' causing the engine to shut down and would crank but no fuel since the inertia switch cuts off the fuel. Would either have to wait 5 minutes or pop the hood and push the button down then would start fine. Luckily it was a cheap fix, they're only about $30 or so.
