Best dumpster find ever?

I live in a community that is about 80% vacation homes. They turn over relatively often. When they do, a lot of stuff gets thrown out. We have to drive about 2 miles to the community dumpsters to get rid of household trash.

Yesterday I rode my ATV down (literally down about 1500 ft elevation drop) to the dumpsters to dispose of a bag of trash. I opened the dumpster door, threw my trash in, and noticed a cooler. That is not uncommon as this a mountain area and the part time residents come here to hunt. I didn’t think much of it and then noticed ARB on it. It was a 50 quart fridge freezer. I assummed it didn’t work and walked back to my ATV. Then I stopped and thought, take it home and see if it works. I figured if it didn’t work I’d just take it back to the dumpster the next day.

I plugged it in and set it to 20 degrees. It has been working flawlessly for about 20 hours. They retail for about $1000.

Anyone able to top this for a dumpster find?

it worked ok for the first few years. Been sitting in the garage for a long time.

I suspect its got a leak. Ordered a shrader valve tap thing. If the leak is inside the cooling area its trash

I think I bought it in 2012. Id say I maybe got 3 years of reliable use.

This one had Bud Dry in it, which according to Wikipedia hasnt been offered since 2010. So, it’s at least 14 years old. I was really surprised it worked.

Mine is 23 years old and works like a champ. Dented, properly beaten up. So UT desert, left to run in truck for days while backpacking you name it. I refuse to get rid of it.

are the metal baskets in your arb's held in place with a clip? the service manual referencew this but mine doesnt have one

I put a service port tap on it and charged it up. It started working but lost 5 psi overnight. The r134a detector maxes out when stuck inside the fridge so it looks like the evaporator is damaged. Going to try to disassemble it, but this part wasnt made to be taken apart

I know it’s frowned own but AC stop leak could be a last ditch attempt before it hits the dumpster. I used it on my home AC system rather than tearing into my walls trying to find a leak in the line set. 5 years later and it hasn’t lost any Freon.

Mine does not have clips.

I’m now using it for the 45 minute return trip from the grocery store. It easily gets to 20 degrees on the way there.
