Any advice with this would be greatly appreciated. This is my first post for discoweb! Though I search ALL the time. I have a ticking going on when my engine is hot AND cold. Oil level is good, I run hi octane gas and I believe y-pipe it tight. Here is a video of on Youtube, not my ride but might as well be. Thanks for everyone's input in advance.

Brian,if it sounds like an exhaust leak, hold your hand and see if you can feel the air pressure change when you rev the engine, that its probably the head gasket... mine did the same. i thought i would see colant or some other sign of a head gasket failure but My buddy swore it was the HG, after removing the head he was dead on.. its hard to hear in the youtube video.

That is the sound of a bad Rocker Tappet. What type of oil and what weight are you using? how many miles on the DII?

73,000. I bought it used at 67,000. I don't think the first owner took care of it. But.... Every serive he had done was at the dealer. I use Havoline 10-30 here in NC. I'm still under warranty for 20 more days! Hot damn!

You have a warranty? This is going to have a happy ending. Take it in at once, they will probably try some additive but keep the paper work as proof it started under warranty. As soon as you get it back do a little hard driving to see if it comes right back, they will probably just add some additive or switch you to thicker oil. Don't settle for that, if its not right they owe you a motor.

Understandable. Glad you had the warranty. I purchased an extended warranty and just had my ABS modulator go out. I think it's gonna cost me $100 to pay for the labor overage. not bad either.

Damn Brian you've had a few issues with that Ford. Maybe you should have bought the BMW;)

Mine had the same exact noise...got faster with engine speed.....in the end i believe it to be a stuck lifter...used Marvel Mystery Oil and after some drive time the noise cleared up and hasn't come back since...I now use it every 3 or so oil changes. Engine ran perfect and oil pressure was good on mine...just had that noise. Worth a shot to try. Mine is an 03 and it happened around 60K i think.

She threw a P0741 I believe. Clutch stuck "on". I had to drive to the dealer 3 different times, the warranty supervisor actually had to the SES light himself before they coughed up the $3,200.... Now this... tick...tick...tick.... Drillbit made a good point, they're going to try different tricks to get it to go away, and hopefully they don't work so I can get a new engine.

I can't keep D2 trannys around. I have people beating my door down for the 99-02's and lately I have been getting calls for the 03-04's.

Just brought my DII with 72k on the clock in for the same noise. It was a stuck lifter. The mechanic said that he'd never seen an engine that was as clean as mine after so many miles (oil changes with Rotella every 3k) so why I would need any additives is beyond me. Best of luck getting the warranty to cover it.

I'd bet it was a liner slipping. Does it only happen when it get really hot? We have seen a lot of 03/04's with slipping liners in the past few months.
