for some reason I can't create a new thread so I will revive this one for my windshield wiper question...

Last night both front windshield wiper arms on my 2004 DII started acting up. They both move completely in unison but the one-touch/one-swipe feature no longer works correctly and no speed on intermittent works correctly.

If you push the stalk down for the one-swipe feature, the blades only move while you have the stalk depressed. When you lift off the stalk, the blades stop wherever they happen to be on the windshield. You have to hold down the stalk and let up on it at just the right moment to try to get them to park in the resting position.

On intermittent, the blades sweep over about a quarter of the windshield and then pause....you can hear the intermittent relay activate and then the blades move another quarter of the way, then pause, then hear the relay, then continue, etc.

Has my stalk switch gone bad?

Wiper motor. I went through everything..replaced the motor with a new OE part..good as gold.

thanks for the replies, will have to tinker with it and likely replace the motor

all that rain you guys had in San Diego worked it's way up here, Peter. I've the used the wipers maybe once since I bought this D2 in April and now I've been using them almost daily for the past couple weeks!

I have the same issue in my 01Disco. As the wipers do work when warmed up, I thought it wasn't the relay or motor, but something to do with the switch in the stalk.

Anyone that has swapped out the stalk, care to comment on how difficult was the job??? cost/time??

Or, some helpful hints if anyone has dismantled the stalk and cleaned the contacts as someone suggested ???

Cheers!

It's your motor. Mine worked when warmed up. When I replaced the motor, it works all the time now. If it were the switch, I would guess it would not work all the time. The wiper motor (and rear too) is a fairly common part to replace. Make sure you get the original motor considering the effort required to replace it.

I think it is your switch. Like said before and by many others. I have identical problem and had the same problem with the turn signal. New turn signal stalk and it cleared it totally. Cleaning with electrical contact cleaner did not help my turn signal or wiper issues. I ordered a used wiper stalk for $30. New is $340. Call the rover guy and see what he has.

Being a novice techie, I've lived with the wiper problem for the last couple of years, but would like to fix it if it doesn't cost me my first born.

How difficult is it to replace the motor? I've looked at the RAVE cd, and it seems like I need to remove everything but the windshield to get to the motor. Also, is there a remanufactured motor and/or other motors that would be a pefect substitute? Thanks.
