Rovers North lists the D1 fuel pump as:
Fuel Pump, Discovery Series I (up to VA714241)
Fuel Pump, Discovery Series I (from VA714242)

Which is your '96? I'm wondering if the pump kit you bought will work for my '95.

The VIN's you listed are '97's. Anyway... I used GM part # 25116163.

The main difference is GEMS vs. Lucas, and then, if GEMS, AEL or not. In all cases, the same pump will work fine as the differences are in the assembly, level sender, vents, etc. not the pump/motor.

I just successfully completed a replacement repair on my 1997 LR Discovery. The dealer wanted $411 for the whole Fuel Pump Kit essembly. My truck required the more expensive part #WFX101020K, however I didn't really need the whole thing. I located the GM part number listed above at a local Autozone, I purchased 1 foot of fuel line and 2 small hose clamps and put it back together (well, I didn't do the work, a mechanic friend did), but I watched :) and besides the mechanic's muscle and hands in the fuel bit, I think I could have done the work myself. Glad I didn't have to. So the Towing to far away dealer + $411 part + $100/hr labor = ~$700 was reduced to $51 part (GM part) + the labor = ~$200.

Thanks so much for the tip! You saved me bigtime.

In Oz the original part is $700. The after market part is $700 as a genuine replacement part. I know someone who has a 93 D1 3.9 V8 who replaced the pump with an almost identical self priming one from a 3.8L V6 Commodore (GMH - ie General Motors Holden; Australia) for $60 brand new and checked the pressure at the fuel rail and it was exactly right - has been quietly working fine.
