Over the past few months I have noticed my 95 discovery loosing its power. When I push on the gas nothing really happens. The tach doesnt raise nor do I seem to go any faster. I have even noticed that I am loosing speed when going over bridges. It appears to be shifting normaly. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Any mods, such as a lift, bigger tires, etc? These only add weight to your already heavy/slow Rover.
Minor work such as a tune-up and a couple runs of sea-foam might cure your lag.

Let's see what others have to say...

I agree w/ what adrian said, some seafoam and a tune up could go a long way.

Do you know where you can get seafoam? Is it available in CA?

If you are losing that much power, and you have even done basic upkeep on your Disco. (plugs, wires, air filter, cap, rotor button).

Then I would say your cats are getting clogged and need replaced.

I've used BG44K over the years and it works. Do a search on it and you will find many clubs recommend it. Most local auto parts stores carry it.

I'll second checking the fuel filter. If it hasn't been changed and is really plugged up it can play Hell with your power. Just not getting enough gas. You might also want to check the fuel pump. (That is what plugged up my fuel filter the last time. :D ) ) Checking the fuel pressure at the rail isn't a big deal and can tell you alot.

how do you check the fuel pressure at the rail? what tool do you need and where is the nipple or whatever?

There is an outlet on RH rail that looks like a tyre valve. I check my pressure there with a tyre gauge.

Hey, I just thought of something.

Is your vacuum advance working?

It is a 95, so its a 3.9. When the advance gets stuck, the power really suffers.

You can confirm this by checking your timing, at idle.

Disconnect the hose that goes from your throttle plate to the distributor.

Dont worry about plugging the nipple on the plenuim. It's cut off by the throttle plate. That nipple only gets vacuum when the throttle is opened.

Apply vaccum to the hose, and the timing should move....I use a vacuum pump, and wtach the timing with a light while i pump it.

I have the spec at work, but really, ifyou see some change, it's likely working. Usually, when they go bad, vacuum has no change.
