larger sidewall will ride softer at the same PSI

larger diameter rim will balence easier with less weight

smaller rim will keep the rim farther from harms way at the same diameter.

larger rim will retain its bead easier at the same psi because of less leverage to pry it away.

larger rim will transfer better steering feel at the diameter tire because it has less sidewall deflection.

etc etc...yada yada yada

yeah its all just personal taste:D

That's offset some by the fact that the larger rim is more likely to have an impact to unseat the bead. In fact, people are starting to move away frmo bling rims in NYC because the roads are so bad they complain of wheel damage and flats from potholes.
