I've been reading for a while and it seems that Rotella is the best option for my 04 Disco, however, for me to get rotella it would mean a 30+ mile drive to the nearest place that sells it (According to Shell's dealer listings on website). So, what would be the best alternative? Or where is Rotella also sold that shell might not be listing? So many people have been using Rotella I have to imaguine that its sold at more stores than specialti oil shops.

I've been thinking Mobil 1 Synthetic 10W-40, or Rotella Synthetic 5W-40. I've also read some critisims reguarding Mobil 1 and our engines. The lowest temps here will be around 30F in the winter, and in the summer it can hit 90-100F, should I be using a winter and summer oil? If so can anyone recommend one for me?

Thanks I'll try that. I don't mean to beat a dead horse, I've done quite a bit of searching but I always get alot of mixed opinions, some people swear by Mobil 1, some hate it, the same goes with Rotella or some other oils. I just was looking for fresh advise based on my car and climate.

I just bought the truck with 98k on it, would you recommend a "high-mileage" oil under any circumstances, or would normal rotella do the trick?

How can anyone hate a particular oil? I highly doubt that anyone notices that big of a difference in performance based on the brand of oil. Although I have to admit, I hate Pennzoil, but only because of the way it smells.

You can Rotella 15w-40 at any walmart, any truck stop, or my favorite Tractor Supply. You can also get it at Advance Auto Parts and most chain stores in gallon jugs or in 5 gallon pails in case you have a herd of trucks. Those same places also sell the 5w-40 Synthetic in the same places.

I would use the 15w40 if it never goes below freezing.

There is already a live thread about oil.
Just get some rotella blue jug 5w40 and be done with it.

Jeeeeeeezus, can we put in a new post bot that will automatically delete any new threads that contain the word oil?

Fill your engine with Platinum Lube, yah yah that's the ticket. If it's good for spankin' yer ham then it's good for lubin' yer cam!

Anything with certification that does not have metal shavings in it... read owners manual for the temp specs. Napa has great customer service. They will even tell you what oil filter to use. You do not have to look in a book. Really, another oil one...

I use 15W40 oil made by "Search Button" brand.

It takes a few minutes of your time to fully understand all of the benefits of its uses, but after you get the feel for it, it will do wonders for you.
