what kind of roof rack is this?

i have owned it for 3 years, used it once, bought from ebay way back when i knew nothing, i am pretty sure it was meant for D1 but fits my D2 fine.

what really throws me is the Land Rover badge on one side which reads 50 year anniversary 1948-1998 (i think those are the dates)

anyway what kind, type, brand is it, and is it any good?

surco with a LR badge? could it be a surco branded for dealerships to sell back then?

moving on, any reason why i couldnt ditch the basket and build a full length custom rack utilizing the surco mounting hardware?

you could...... You'd be better off getting some brownchurch legs and building off that. Get a set and you'll see what I'm talking about. The brownchurch will hold a ton. My Surco has rover stickers on it too. It may have been a true aftermarket accessory or some dope may have just put them on... they are not straight.
