12 years' old Glenlivet is fine for me warm, Glenfiddich must be older.

OTOH, I find myself progressively gravitating towards cheaper shit. In a couple of years, I'll be happy with Red Label or Dewar's...

I love my single malts on the rocks, but I let them sit for a few minutes before drinking. I find that the water from the melting ice actually opens up the flavor a bit.

ArmyRover - AWESOME. I'm a big homebrew fan. Out with the IPA, in with the OIFPA! Haha!

For cheaper stuff that isn't too bad, you can get Bowmore. It's a bit more more spicy on the Islay Single-Malt spectrum, but is still very good. Really you shouldn't have to mix much more than a teaspoon of water in for a few ounces.

Glenlivet is tasty, so is Glenmorangie. I find Glenfiddich harder than any of the others i tried.

On my personal mellow scale, Glenfiddich is equal to three-years-younger Glenlivet. Prices tend to reflect it as well - in local BevMo, 15 y.o. GF is about the same as GL.

I know no comparison to Laphroaig, though.

The old standby: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Re: whiskey on the rocks, I only add one ice cube if it's over 90 proof and even then it's not a hard rule. Bookers, for example, is best enjoyed undiluted at room temperature in my opinion. Even if it does burn like a mofo.
