Want to build my own front shock towers.

I just ordered my 7100's, and I know the D2 towers would be an easy route, but where's the fun in that? So I'm going to build my own.

I saw a picture of some that Keith built, and I noticed they were angled in a bit. Just curious as to the reason of this? The front is so stiff on these trucks I don't see a reason to mount them outside the spring, so I was planning on keeping them inside the spring.

Other than that, it seems to be a straight forward, easy project.

Check with Keith on rationale...I'd stick with teh stock location unless you are going 3-link and all that hoopala...

yeah, that's what the plan is... if I want to mount them outside in the future, it wouldn't be that hard.

I was told that 1" tubing is a bit small for this. What do you think? It's a rover so I'm not going to be going crazy with it...

I have a pair of the adjustable towers sitting in a box at the house. I've had them since before Steve left. I'll install them some day.

Matt, let me know if you want pictures.

ok guys. I have everything I need to build the towers this weekend, but I was suggested to build a hoop and mount them outside the spring instead. What do you guys think? inside, or outside?

I can see the advantage if I had a 3 link, but I don't. If I mount the shock outside the spring, I'll have to have a local shop bend the hoop for me.

here's a pic.

Ok I dug some up for ya. You want a measurement from the bottom of the mount to the bolt?

Cool, so you did mount them inside. I think that's what i'll do since I don't really see a need for mounting them outside the spring. I took some ballpark measurements (I say ballpark because the lower mount hasn't been built yet) a few days ago, so I have an idea of how tall the tower needs to be.

I've got the design in my head and it should work out great. Thanks!
