Is there different VSS units to match different tire sizes? I installed 255X85X16 tires and speedo and shiftpoints need adjusting.

There is only one LR VSS. There was a thread a few years back (search Richards, i think) where hhe used some aftermarket speedo recalibrating device. But with those tires you should only be off like 5 mph?
You need to regear your 3rds to correct shift points.

If you regear your thirds to 4.1's then it will also correct the speedo if you're running 255/85's since the speedo gets driven from the tail of the t-case on a classic.

Some notes from Randall:

The VSS on my 1992 RRC is the only original mechanical part still on my truck at 170k miles.

Using 4.11 gears with 245/75/16 tires yeilds no variation in speedometer reading.

Do not bother with higher gear ratios unless you like to break them. The aftermarket 4.11s are stronger because of the material/heatreating. Higher gear numbers=less strength.

Not intending to hijack the VSS thread.

If everything else is the same then, higher numerical ratio is weaker than lower numerical ratio gears. Would be interesting to know how they get "50% stronger than stock" with 4.75 gears. That MAY be true. But when I do engineering work before buying or making parts, I use exact data to make my decisions. 25% stronger or 50% stronger is obviously not useful info.

The reason why I posted the comment about breaking gears is because that is what is going to happen if the gear you use(to correct your speedo) is not as strong as the gears you replaced.

I might be interested in 4.75 gears myself if they were stronger than the 4.11s.
