Value of stock front bumper?

I was advised to sell my stock front bumper and get a steel bumper, before I trash it the stock one.

Just curious, how much is a stock front bumper worth in good condition?

Also wondering, how hard is it to install a steel front bumper? Could it be done with minimal tools in... a parking lot? Just wondering, if I bought one in the US, could I put it on so I could drive back across the boarder without any "imperial interference" ;)

Emmmm, would this mean that you would drive accross without a bumper ??? Or you'd come back with the stock bumper in the back ??? Or you'd find someone to sell it to and get the steel one while on the u.s side ??? Which bumper are you getting ??? RTE ??

I would likely remove the bumper in the US, install the new one, and come back. It's pretty optimistic I know... that's why I'm asking if it's possible.

I don't know about the bumper yet. I prefer the TJM, but it's backordered. Somebody here is selling a TJM, but I have to sell my stock one first. So, it's really just at the planning stage at the moment.

R,

I had to pick my bumper up about two hours away. I removed my stock bumper the night before. I took care of the fog lights, washer fluid dispensers and capped everything off the night before my trip to take care of all the problems. The next day I took my tools and made the trip without my bumper. I picked my bumper up and installed it with a buddies help. I just needed him to help lift it into place. I attached it with the included hardware not including the vertical bolts that require drilling on the frame. But, it held up the entire way back and I made sure to tighten everything down again when I got home. Easy skeezy. No worries, you can do it!

Cheers,

Matt

I went with the RTE, as should you and everyone else. I suppose it took about an hour to get the lights out, hoses clipped back, and all the little bits taken apart....It will probably take you a bit longer because you HAVE to relocate your washer fluid bottle. The stock position is rediculous. I wouldnt know where to put it, but Im sure there are a few threads on here about it...good luck and I promise you'll be happy with a new bumper.

And, as far as the value of your bumper....try and sell it on ebay or the like.

Otherwise, just hand it over to a fellow roverhead. I gave my stock bumper and lights to a buddy that bought a wrecked DI to repair and drive. Im sure when the time comes, he'll repay me generously with whatever I might need. (I hope the gunny reads this!)

Really? Huh, other people here said that it would practically offset the cost of a new bumper.

I can't afford to just outright buy a new one right now, so I guess I'll just sit on it for now.

Put it for sale for $200.00. If it doesn't sell you are out nothing. Be sure to check shipping quotes before making any deals. It will be expensive.

The stock bumper is a lot harder to get off than the steel bumper is to put on. You may want to strip the stock on down to the steel insert before you go to get the steel one. It will save a ton of time.

I believe the only special tool I used was a torx on a bolt behind the liscense plate. I don't recall the size.

You should entirely dismantle the OEM bumper. That means remove the end caps, plinth, spoiler, fog lights, headlight washer nozzles, everything. Then put all the parts on eBay individually. You should get somewhere around $200 for everything that way. Plus it's a lot esiler to ship. I do this all the time, selling between 100-200 Land Rover parts on eBay every month.

Alternatively, you can try to sell the entire bumper but shipping will be difficult and expensive for such a large item. If you choose that route I would list it on Craigslist so that most of the interest will be local and you won't have to worry about shipping.

I sold mine to a bodyshop for $250, back in late 2001. It was off my SD, so no painted panels. I think they were most excited for the crush cans. Give a local shop a call.

Ok, thanks guys. I already have an offer for $350, but it won't be enough for a new bumper. Not even a used one. So, I'll hang on for now.

For $200, I would probably just keep it, "just in case" I ever needed it.

It's like my factory head unit. Was offered $30 for it. Pffft! So if I ever went to sell the truck or something, I gotta sell it with a $200 aftermarket unit... I'll just keep it. $50 I thought was reasonable, but $30... nah...

Hmmm... I think he wants the headlights and grille for that price too.

I don't think so...
