Ok, i made it down to FL a couple days ago. The drive was not bad, having left NOVA around 1330 we arrived to Florence, SC at 1915. Thats with two stops along the way. Traffic around Richmond was a bit thick, but only for 40min or so.
Having spent the night in Florence, SC we departed for Jacksonville, FL around 1030. We arrived at location around 1630. The traffic was good and even despite a somewhat heavy rain i was able to go 75. Just keep an eye on state patrolling the area. I havent seen any police cars posted up along that route.
As i was driving, i could not keep detailed notes of every little thing. There are plenty of rest stops and places to eat along the route. I m heading back tomorrow and will post up anything significant that pops up.

Thanks for the update, it gives me a good estimate. Be safe on your trip home. Hows the weather there now?

I did this drive once 17 hrs no sleep...

Thats cause Gem you are HD! I'll be traveling in a 90 5 speed st in Feb with the new wifee and my 7yo son. I'm sure you know defender seats are not the most comfortable or spacious and heaters are about worthless not to mention I am 6'3" 205lbs. If I would be by myself I would do it with one stop.

Hey Mike,

If you can make it to Savannah area you'll be good for two days of driving instead of three. If you want to take a day off the road then head on into Hilton Head SC or Savannah and stay near or on River Streat. Depending on how much money you want to spend the Westin across the river from river street is killer. Stayed there on crew rest a few times. Liked it so much I took my wife there for a many vacation. http://www.westinsavannah.com/ If you aren't in to that there are some good hotels just off 95 around Savannah.

No hurry on the wheels, just let me know when they are in and we'll work out shipping etc..

Cheers,

Mike
mike, if you want, i'll let you sell those wheels to me once you get them in!

I will try to keep a more detailed log on the way back. The weather was good going VA to SC. Once we left SC and headed to FL it started pouring pretty hard. The traffic was light though, so i could still maintain 70. Now i am driving a freaking cargo van, so i dont try to haul ass in it, especially loaded with "things".

The weather here now is fairly warm (high 70s to high 80s) and humid. Cloudy most of the time when i was here with brief periods of rain here and there.

OK ladies and gents, I'm going to start planning my trip from Dubois PA to Jacksonville FL very shortly. I will be driving the 90 the whole way. I have never driven south of DC. I will most likely not be too interested (yet) in seeing any sights. What would be the best routes to take and best places to stop for a rest. I'm figuring maybe two stops for a rest at a motel.

Any suggestions or experience?

Thanks,
Mike:patriot:

Mike, I'm just north in Bradford and have made the trip more times than I can count. I have family in Port Saint Lucie, FL. From Dubois take I80 west to 79 South. 79 south to 19 through Beckley to 77 south. Take 77 south through Charlotte NC to 26 East. 26 east to 95 south just before Charleston SC. Charleston is a good place to check out and stay a night at. (use to live there). It takes 12 hours from Bradford to Charleston so from Dubois it'll take about ten.

Take Care,
-Nate

none of your fucking business
Hey man, when we used to drive from Quantico to Tampa, we would just hit I95 and ride the entire way. The only issues are Smokies...just don't drive too fast and you'll be good. But, in the 90 I can't see you having any issues. We would always stop at Santee Cooper in SC. If you want, Ill meet you in Wilson or Rocky Mount for lunch and Welcome Home!

St. Lucie is 2 exits over.

Nice, I took some classes at Indian River CC. Use to watch the St. Lucie Mets play all the time. I've got family down on Indian River Drive about a mile from the Jenson Beach bridge going out to Hutchinson Island. I'm down that way at least twice a year.
On another note, for a stay over Ladson has a few hotels just off the exit and is much cheaper than staying in downtown Charleston. It's only about 7 mile outside of the city as well.

Take Care,
-Nate

Alright, just a quick update, i made it to Fayetteville, NC. Left Jacksonville around 1030 and with about 1hr worth of stops (lunch and gas) i got here at 1700. It was about 400 miles. Ran into some major construction at exit 36 thru mile marker 60 or so, heading north on 95. Speed limit is 70 most of the way, except for portions of 55 or 60, especially around the construction area, which stretches for about 25 miles. Easy drive though, not a lot of traffic, sunny today and warm.
A few troopers out, so like others said keep an eye out for them and i wouldnt speed around this stretch. Nothing else major really, let me know if you have any other questions.

Listen, if you want a free place to stay- I am a quick 15 minutes from I95 where it hits Smithfield NC and have plenty of Rover Tech support just in case. My dogs are friendly and we can probably get LRflip to buy us dinner at the pub.

Born and raised, they replaced the field with artifitial terf last year. The school looks exactly the same.
