Transmission Replacement trouble

I'm throwing a rebuilt transmission in my '96 Discovery and having a slight problem. I got the transfer case splines to line up, and slide most of the way on, but when I get down to about 3/4 of an inch to mate up the surfaces, I can't for the life of me get the transfer case to go on any more. As far as I can tell, the splines are lined up on the shaft, and there is nothing obstructing the transfer case from sliding on any more, I just can't get it on any more, and have tried several times.

Am I missing something, or is there some trick I don't know about? The transfer case slid off the old transmission so easily, and I can't figure out what the resistance is comming from. Any advice would be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Ryan

Just double check,...you should have an alignment pin, sometimes they get snug on refitment, I place a small amuont of grease, etc prior to fitment to avoid any slight bind.

I think you will find the problem is the length of the coupling shaft spline, you need one of these :
