Hi all,
new to Rover so bear with me. Have a 95 Discovery automatic with a blown x-fer case. (according to the previous owner) Think it is a LT230Q. I can get a LT230T from a manual 95 for a good price. will it fit? Any mods required?
thanks

blown TC's are really rare...what is the truck doing that makes you and the PO think its the TC?

Blown t-cases are indeed rare, but leaking t-cases are a dime a dozen. I've seen lots of them where the owner never checked the fluid level, let it all drain out and the t-case eats itself. Easy way to check is pulling the service panel from the bottom and have a look inside.

Yes, this is how T-cases go out.

For reference, I put a T-case from an automatic rover (D1) into a manual truck (D-90) and the only modification that I needed was to remove the shift lock solenoid. I assume that it wouldn't work the other way because the manual t-case won't have a place for a shift lock solenoid. The old manual t-case is at my dad's house and I could double check for you sometime though if you need it.

The previous owner had a bad leak from the t-case while on vaca out west. Had the seals and fluid replaced and came home. Soon after, the truck would not move. I think a service tech told him it was the t-case on the phone. service tech also said the t-case swap will work. I am hearing to many stories. will check the case through the bottom panel, thanks.

There is no reason a transfer case from a manual transmission vehicle will not work in a Disco. No, it won't have the neutral lock-out solenoid, but most of us around here discard that anyway.

I have seen LT-230s with the input gear teeth razor sharp. I drove mine God only knows how long with no oil in it and it was still rockin' and rollin' when I replaced it. I seriously doubt it is blowed up, check the position of the transfer case shift lever!
