Their are rarely any trails in nashville and most of the ones are goverment owned. Would anyone happen to know of a place to go nearby but not like hours away. Preferably no more than 20- 30 min from brentwood or bellemeade

Try Monteagle, Tennessee. I know that Land Rover Nashville takes some offroading groups there every once in a while. Probly within less than an hour in driving distance. Just call up LR Nashville and they should be able to help you.

Hey TN-LR3 , there's a big group going to Windrock on this side of Knoxville, actually near Oakridge, this weekend, you should come along.
I along with several others are NOT looking for any trail damage so if you wanna have fun without beat'n it up, you could run with the milder group which I intend to an extent.
But some of the big boys are gonna give it a go at the harder trails.
Check out the thread:

Thank you spydrjon for the link. And I do know of the Landover Nashville trips because my family has been buying from their since 92' . I also get their newsletter and they usually go the second weekend of every month.

spydrjon, how's that "wheelninthecountry"? That'd be like an hour from downtown nashville right?
Columbia's about 50 min or so, then to get to Summertown... not too much further?

Is it worth the trip? Have any pics from there?
The pictures on thier website are rediculous, like you'd have to have 33" tires or bigger and lockers to even think about going there?

Rhino the trip sounds really good because i don't want body damage, but how far are these trails from Nashville? If wheelin in the country has trails that are good could be another possibility since it's like an hour from nashville.
Has Anyone ever been to wheelin in the country?
It look like most of the trails are rated hard but their are some that are rated at 3 and 4. I'm not sure how hard those would be though
Rhino PM me

Damn, someone told me that Monteagle was under an hour away from nashville. I guess depends on how fast you drive. Mapquest said 88 miles so 88 mph and you're there in an hour if you don't have many snags along the way! ;)

The LRN trail which is the only open legal trail left in Monteagle. Don't go unless you are in a group with people that know the area. You don't what to end up on one of the trails that is closed and you don't want to piss off the locals down there. But the LRN trail is a fun trail, some possibility of damage but not a lot. Its just a bit over a hour from Nashville. Not quite two hours.

As for WITC (Wheeling in the Country), screw them. Its for four wheelers and jeeps and Suzuki's on 35+" tires. But it is a fun place to go if you have one of those. Its not really trails its just an obstacle place.

It anyone around TN is wanting to hit Monteagle let me know. I know the "new" legal (not being shot at  ) area well. There are not any other close places, I have looked. I am kind of thinking about doing a ride TN Rovers ride down there maybe next month. Its a fun place to wheel when its icy. :D

To my knowledge there is nothing close by that would be considered a moderate or above trail. The closest place to get "off pavement" is probably the Cheatham County WMA. I've been out there once, really nothing but dirt roads. Best bet would be to call the TWRA office and ask where you are allowed to go.

If you go and get a Gazetteer (REI has them) you can look for unimproved county roads on the map, go and try to find them. Before venturing down them though you might want to check with the county to make sure they are legal to be on. I've never really looked so I don't know what is out there, but I know others who have done this elsewhere across the county.

It is about a 1 hour and 15 min. drive to the top of Monteagle for me, I live on the south side of Nashville. BUT, the trails in Monteagle really aren't in Monteagle, so it takes extra time to get to the trails (or trail I should say). I've not been to the last surviving trail in the area so I'm not sure how long it takes to get there but in the good old days it was roughly 2 hours to most of the trail heads.

I don't know the first thing about it, Sorry. I am working down in Mississippi right now and one of the other design engineers here is from Nashville and told me about it. He is a member of the Dixie Crawlers. You may want to look them up.... those are some super serious off roaders.

I was looking at the pics their and it looks like jeep stuff and mud pits. I was thinking about going this weekend to summerville to check it out. But if it just obstacles than it's not always fun. If i could follow anyone from nashville up to monteagle and back. But why are al these trails closing down. I have been asking freinds with land if i can go wheeling but the say after deer season. I guess the only way to go to a place close by would be buying property.

Oh I've never been wheeling in Monteagle either, just word of mouth as to how far. I'd listen to Jay for the best info considering he's actually driven from Nashville to Monteagle!
