My eighteen year old totaled my (his) 96 Maxima.
It was a great car, bought it brand-spankin new and had plans to keep it as a secondary car/gas saver.

My thoughts on what to do are:
1. Fix it and keep it.
2. Sell it parts (Do you think there is a market for parts on this vehicle?)
3. Sell it as a salvaged vehicle

It had 146K miles and was a very sound car mechanically.

sell it as parts.. if you fix it, you still have a rebuilt 150k 11 yr old maxima and alot of money into it. use the money you would have spent fixing it to find an older honda or another maxima that hasnt been hit to fill the same role.. if you part it, youll get more then selling it salvage..

Insurance paying? If so, how much? If they are paying close to private party value, then take the money and buy a similar car. For a car that common, I would not go through the hassle of selling it, fixing it, or parting it out.

Just my opinion.

If you did the work yourself and did'nt mind the hours.....feel free and keep it as a runabout.

The hours and time in repairing a crash damage car only pay you back on top end cars, just not worth it on a disposable

My aunt totaled a 1996 Maxima (deer vs. car). My uncles friend does car repair so he fixed it up and then my aunt & uncle gave it to my cousin.

I would guess there are a lot of used parts out there for Maximas. That said they are a zillion out there and I would imagine parts are pretty desirable.

I guess its a tough decision. Were you thinking of replacing it anytime soon?

I just parted a 95 maxima, there is no money in it. Stick it on craigslist or ebay. You might get 1500 bucks or so out of it. There are so many of these being parted they aren't worth much.
