That is the stupidest shit I've ever heard...Shows you what kind of people are using the KBB site...I mean come on - a corvette ?? They made no mention of price, and if your talking drop tops, why not a 360 Spyder ?? Or, why not an S55 Benz ? Or why not a 997 Carrera S cab or the Range Rover or a BMW 4.6is ? That list is WEAK.

I normally don't see eye to eye with you, but 997 S Cab or Cayenne Turbo E81 package is up there on the list.

Flame away but I would take a Honda Element also.

Agreed, we don't usually....but my reference to the 997 was a direct comparison to the conv Vette, as was the Modena Spyder, or for that matter, a 550/575 Spyder. There are plenty of amazing drop top sports cars that would be a better car for a road trip than a Vette. And for the long haul, the M5 (as previously mentioned) would be right up there as well, as would an S55, E55, 745i, and the Pepper Turbo. Also, depends on your destination, too. Hunting trip, sightseeing, or taking what you drive up to Laguna Seca for the weekend. Arriving at Laguna Seca in a 360 Spyder and turing laps would be pretty sick...especially for the schmo in his Vette that you lap :)

I dunno, when I think 'road trip' I think I want a car that can carry a set of golf clubs and a cooler.
Yeah I'm with you,,,guess we have a different definition of 'road trip' than some. (But for me it would be fishing rods instead of golf clubs)

Back in the USA; Rockwood, PA
at one time Road Trip equated to Cannonball for me.

now, a road trip is with a beast called a Land Rover something or another usually 108" or so long variety packed with everything plus a kitchen sink and basically going where ever you want to go.

I got to take a new 2006 Z06 out on the track at Mid Ohio for a few laps last week and it was fucking pissed off. I have also had some extensive seat time in a 360 and that Z06 would rip it a new asshole.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that...maybe the regular street 360. I was comparing the regular 360 to the regular C6. The C6-Z06 is their souped up version, and I believe the souped up version of the 360, the 360 Stradale would hold it's own. Or, since the C6-Z06 is the newest model, we could just compare it to the newest model Ferrari, the 430. The 430 will turn faster laps then the Z06. With it's mid engine weight distribution advantage, faster shifting and better brakes...Plus, the Z06 is still a Vette. In 5 years they will be a dime a dozen and the F430 will still be a work of art that will still be highly sought after and retain much of it's original value. The entire F430 production run is already sold, FYI. I won't argue that the C6 Z06 is NOT a great value and a serious bang for the buck, but it's still full of plastic, looks horrible and the original KBB article said nothing of a Z06.
At some point, the American car manufacturers need to realize that massive hp is fun, but not usable. When you reach the 500 hp mark, weight distribution, design, aerodynamics and handeling become much more important than raw hp. Yeah it's fun on the straights, but it's totally unusable in the turns. And that's where the 430 would dominate over the Vette with it's boat anchor up front...

my idea of a road trip involves camping, mountain biking, rock climbing etc... im going to have to go with the 69 vw wesfalia. small and lots of anemities...although they are even slower than the d1 and get even worse gas mileage. rv, s are too damn big and annoying to drive, sports cars...well, if all you want to do is drive then that would be ok i guess. although, i must say that i thoroughly enjoy roadtripping in the d1...

my big ass cooler full of microbrew fits snugly in the back :D
