...that is the question that a search couldn not answer.

There is a local tranny specialist here that advertises a tranny "power flush", and they will warranty the work and possible the tranny (i still need to get the details of this warranty).

I tried to check to fluid level last week and oil came pouring out of the fill hole and it looked pretty bad, but some say we shouldnt flush the whole tranny out.

how difficult is it to change the filter? should i just drain the pan and refill?

what do you guys think?

It is never a good thing to have fluid pour out when you try to check the level. There is a problem. Was it watery? Burnt? When was the last time you checked it?

It's ok like that. You need to start the engine and cycle it through all of the gears to get the ATF into the system. Then while in P and with the motor still running you check the ATF level through the fill hole.

Ive heard that you dont need to touch the tranny fluid in a D2, which is why they didnt include a dipstick to check it.

If you do pull the pan, make sure you have a fresh gasket to put on.

you check it just like a diff...or tcase..

the fill plug on the front of the pan while going through the gears...

the gasket/filter is simple on that truck.

i have never been a fan of a flush...sometimes they free up stuff that is better left alone and ends up getting lodged/trapped somewhere it doesnt

thanks, I did cycle through the gears but did not have the truck running, that may explain it.

I just read through the tech section and found a write up for changing the filter and replenishing the oil (or atleast half of it). who has done this? looks fairly straightforward

thanks all
