hey gang. Last night I tried to turn over the rover, and was acting like that batt was dead, you know, the fast tic tic sound. BUt when to jump it, and still the same issue...

would a dead starter sound like that?

what else should I be looking at..

Just did this on my 99. Two allen headed screws, you need the 5/16 instead of the metrics. I bought a rebuilt starter from Advance Auto Parts. Was just over $200 with exchange. The rebuilt starter was in hand, with a LR stamp, and a waranty through Advance. I had though about one of the smaller gear reduction starters, but the truck was at college, and I wanted to get it moved.

As far as tips, make sure you disconnect the battery, The heat shild snaps on, be careful of the wiring to the O2 sensor. I left all four wheels on the ground, and used a floor jack to slightly lift the right front frame to make the access to the starter easier. The starter came out the top side, again, watch the O2 wires.

Have someone hit the starter with a hammer while you are turning the key. If it starts, stuck starter. Replace it.

Had this happen to me yesterday.
