There's one thing here that Dan is absolutely right about.

Even an unmodified Rover is unbelievably capable, and there is a point at which further modification is simply not required. You go past that point because you want to, not because you need to.

Most of my work has gone into non-traditional modifications and fittings. You won't see me posting about their nature any more than Dan may about whatever the fuck he's done. That doesn't mean they are super-special. Most people wouldn't even see the point behind all the work.

That doesn't mean Dan isn't a pompous ass, though. Of course he is. He's just right on occasion.

As for Lucky 8, it's brought so much part availability over here, the benefits to the community are unbelievable. My new differentials wouldn't have been so easy a purchase without Justin. I could have got them, sure, but not with a single phone call.

The value of a resource like that is directly related to how you use it. There's a hell of a lot more to Justin and his crew than tall springs. Whether or not you like that sort of thing isn't relevant. Along with those bits have come an endless array of parts and industry connections.

We needed that. Things were stagnating in that regard, and he's fired it up again.

Sure, that's great. But it seems more-and-more of his inventory is coming directly from the racks at DAP. Soon enough he'll be selling Brownchurch and Big Blues to match his Big Reds. Or are they Big Yellows? I can't remember.

There are a few things that I've done in the past that I like to keep to myself. I don't feel the need to blog about them or show them off on a web forum. What's the point of having a stealth mod if you tell everyone about your stealth mod?

Once you finally understand that everything you do to your truck is fucking it up you will get it. You have not reached that point, yet. You're still one of those cheapfuck assholes ruining the brand. Lucky 8 is capitalizing on people just like you. The Discovery is a beautiful thing. So is a stock RRC. When you start slapping on big knobby tires and outrageous lifts, the truck is fucked up. Next thing you know you're towing your rig everywhere you go because the truck is no longer drivable. That seems to be a goal for most of you ass-clowns out there. I did it, too, for awhile until I learned you don't need a 5" lift, bias ply tires, and an exocage to go out and have a lot of fun on some pretty challenging trails. Sure, someone on 35's may be able to crawl over a rock here-and-there that the guy on 32's cannot, but in my experience those trails are few and far between. Having a Rover on 35's and a buggy on 35's is a night-and-day difference. It's apples to oranges. Just because you have a Rover on 35's does not mean you're going where you want to and that you're going to leave the guy on 32's in the dust. At the end of the day my buddy in his Samurai will have shown you how it's done and have gone places a Rover would have never thought to. That's just the way it is. Understand this and build a truck that's suitable and reliable.

Yeah, never seen one before.

You are that guy.

What have I bought for the sake of prestige? I don't even know what that means. I buy products I believe in. I've been proven wrong some times and I chalk that up as a lesson learned. I can admit it. But somehow I'm a dick when I tell others to be wary.

I've taken advice from a lot of assholes. Never bothered me.

Are you even listening to yourself?? "Stealth Mod", I was joking calling you 007 but it looks like I wasn't that far off. We are still talking about lockers switches, not "oil slick" and" missile launch" switches right? And FWIW having your locker switches not actually in reach doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. For me to touch the ashtray I need to lean forward and to the passenger side, not very convenient when you need them. But I guess stuff like convenience and practicality don't matter when your a secret agent.

My truck is modded to the exact place I want it to be. I drive it everywhere. I don't have a tow rig and there is no place close to offroad living between Milwaukee and Chicago. I plan to drive it to Utah for two weeks next year. But yeah I'm a hack and have Fucked up the brand and trailer my truck everywhere because it's undrivable. You've totally got me pegged.

As with most things in life it's not what you say it's how you say it. Stop and think how many times different people on here have called you an asshole and how you're generally perceived. If you present yourself like an asshole the most common conclusion is that you are an asshole. It's not rocket science but maybe you can have Q explain it to you later.

You can call me whatever you want. It does not really bother me if you can't tell. Dipshit.

Mods like this have been called stealth mods since the beginning of Dweb. Look in the archives. It's not a name I came up with.

Sorry you're so short. That must suck sometimes.

So there is no where to drive your truck off-road, but you have big knobby tires, lockers, HD axles, etc... on your daily driver? Sounds reasonable.

I plan to drive it to Utah for two weeks next year. But yeah I'm a hack and have Fucked up the brand and trailer my truck everywhere because it's undrivable. You've totally got me pegged.

I plan to drive to the moon and back next year.

Thanks, mom.

Rovertracks

The ones pictured were the ones from the Keith and Bobby days. A definite improvement over the Keith and Troy days.

LOL

I have a few Keith/Troy CV's decorating my garage shelf...

So, in a perfect world, how strong are these $740 axle kits?
How big a tire will they handle? How much flogging before they blow up and take out the entire diff and housing?
I seriously want to know.
I am still running Ashcroft 2522 CV's(on Keith/RT inners) with 265/75s.

I might need some axles for my other truck---my ExPo LWB.

It makes me less of a dumbass.

Your Jack Daniels makes you less of a dumbass....but only if I drink enough of it...

Try to follow along here. My seat is moved all the way back, not because I'm short but because I'm tall-ish(6'). The farther ones seat is moved back the farther one is from the dash, and ashtray. Still with me??

The '98 isn't my daily driver, hasn't been for about a year. I daily drive a '96 Disco with OME lift and 235/85 Toyo street friendly tires. I bought it this way.

Very clever. My point is that I have no problem driving my truck the way its set up, whether its 4hrs to Wisconsin or 20hrs to Utah. But again, you knew that. Classic Chappy is to make a stupid comment when presented with facts that contradict your previous statements.

Thanks, mom.
Someone needs to tell you because apparently no one ever did.

I'm 6' 3". I have no problem reaching the ashtray. Maybe you lean your seat back too far like a brotha.

My point is saying something and actually doing it are two different things. But you knew that.

Probably a little stronger than what you've already got. But you should have already learned your lesson from when that CV snowconed inside your stub axle.

Yep, I'm a brutha. Haven't you seen my avatar pic?
I've had my Rover to Utah before. So yes, saying and doing are two completely different things.

Who's "ruining the brand" ?

It's been ruined for years. It was a downhill slide into metrosexual plastic hell after the Series II. It used to be that Land Rovers were for exploration. Now they're for rappers, yuppies, and Dan.

You mean twice.
The first time destroyed the stub axle.
The second time, which broke in a similar fashion; luckily didnt explode the stub axle.
